Four of the five parks take dogs, and you can see every one on our pet friendly lodges search. Well behaved dogs ride free on the regular trains, the Fleece Inn and the Black Bull are known for welcoming them, and there are sheep on the open moorland, so keep a lead handy.

Haworth is a picturesque stone village in West Yorkshire, climbing a steep cobbled street to the church and the parsonage where Charlotte, Emily and Anne wrote their novels. Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre were both written here, which makes it a literary pilgrimage as much as a walking break. Most sights are within ten minutes on foot.
Walk through the historic rooms where the family lived and see their furniture and manuscripts, then step out into the churchyard of Haworth Parish Church next door. It’s a moving experience, even if you’ve not read the books since school.
Opening: Wednesday to Monday, 10am to 5pm, last entry 4pm, and closed Mondays too from November. The museum lists adult tickets at £15 for April 2026 to March 2027, with children 11 and under free. Check the Brontë Parsonage Museum website before your visit.
Take Cemetery Road out of the village, cross Penistone Hill Country Park and follow the path down to Brontë Bridge and the little falls the sisters loved. It’s about 45 minutes each way, gentle for most of it, but rocky near the water and boggy after rain. Keen walkers carry on for another half hour to the ruined farmhouse thought to have inspired Wuthering Heights, where the Pennine Way passes by.

Steam engines puff along five miles of line from Keighley to Oxenhope, stopping at Ingrow, Damems, Oakworth and Haworth. Oakworth was made famous by The Railway Children! It’s a lovely experience for kids. Services run daily in high summer and at weekends in winter, so check the KWVR timetable for your dates.
Take the cobbles slowly. Independent shops, tea rooms and traditional pubs line the way, from the Fleece Inn halfway up to the Black Bull by the church, where Branwell Brontë used to drink.
Down the valley in Keighley, this Victorian mansion has Morris and Co. stained glass, a café and a Green Flag award winning park and garden. Entry is free and it’s closed on Mondays, so it’s a good rainy day plan. See Bradford Museums for times.
The Haworth 1940s Weekend fills the streets with wartime music and costume each May, and the Brontë Women’s Writing Festival comes in late September. In December, hundreds of trees line the cobbles and the Torchlight Parade lights up the hill. The market town of Skipton is close by for a day out.
