Picture the steam curling off your hot tub as the light fades over a woodland lake, with a day in Sherwood Forest or the Peak District behind you. That's the pull of staying in lodges in East Midlands woodland and lakeside parks. You get five counties of forest, rolling hills, stately homes and big-sky coast to explore, then you drive back to a quiet holiday park with room to spread out.
Nottingham sits right in the middle, so most parks below are under an hour from the city.
We've picked six real parks from our own listings, with drive times and sleeping numbers. Then we've added luxury pods and treehouses, days out, walks, the best months to go and a packing list.
All six list hot tubs and take dogs, so the real choice is how far you want to drive and how many of you are going. Tap a column to sort them. Drive times are from Nottingham city centre.

Built in 1893 for Lord Ranksborough, equerry to Queen Victoria, the country house sits in landscaped grounds on the edge of Langham village, where two ancient pubs are within walking distance. Rutland is England's smallest county. It lives up to its motto, Multum in Parvo, or "much in little".

Space is the big reason. A hotel room gives you a bed, but self catering gives you a kitchen, a lounge, your own deck and very often a private hot tub, with views of woodland or water instead of a car park. You can cook when you like, let the hound snooze by the door and still reach Chatsworth or Rutland Water inside an hour. The wifi's usually there too, if you want it.
Then there's the mix of accommodation, which goes well beyond the classic log cabin.
On the banks of the River Trent at Gunthorpe, Peacock Lake Glamping has six adults only pods for two, each with its own private hot tub for a romantic stay. Up in the Peak District National Park, Rivendale Lodge Retreat adds treehouse stays, walking and cycle trails from the park, and a wash for muddy paws.
Couples are spoilt here. Haywood Oaks Golf and Country Club, on the edge of Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, gives every guest unlimited free golf, while Ashby Woulds Retreat is an adults only luxury retreat with its own therapist for facials and massage, the closest thing to a spa break you'll get from a hot tub cabin. Pure relaxation.
The wildest corner of the East Midlands, with Mam Tor, Buxton, Castleton's caverns and the Monsal Trail all near the Derbyshire parks around Matlock and Ashbourne. Near Ashbourne, Sandybrook Lodges has an indoor pool and a bluebell wood walk. Our guides to lodges near Matlock Bath and lodges near Castleton have more.
Robin Hood country, where the Major Oak is at least 800 years old and Nottingham Castle reopened in 2023. Newstead Abbey was Lord Byron's home, Robin Hood's Wheelgate Park is the local theme park for younger kids, and Nottinghamshire holiday cabins tend to sit in woodland with a log burner.
Farm shops, the deer of Bradgate Park just outside Leicester, and the National Space Centre. Twinlakes Park near Melton Mowbray is packed with rides for little ones, and tiny Rutland has the ospreys at Rutland Water.
Big skies and long sandy beaches. Families love the buckets and spades at Skegness, while couples head for the quiet villages of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Lincoln Castle and the cathedral sit side by side at the top of the hill. For Georgian Stamford, see our guide to lodges near Stamford.
The Rose of the Shires has Silverstone Circuit for motorsport fans, and Althorp, where Diana, Princess of Wales, is buried. Look out for the Northamptonshire clanger, a pastry with a savoury end and a sweet one.
A stone market town on the River Wye, famous for the original Bakewell pudding, with Chatsworth House close by and the nearest parks listed in our guide to lodges near Bakewell.
Rain or shine, there's plenty to fill a week in the East Midlands. We've grouped these by area.

Bring a cool bag, because East Midlands food is worth taking home. Stilton can only be made in Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, and only pies made to the traditional recipe around Melton Mowbray can carry the town's name. Add a Bakewell pudding and you've got lunch on the deck sorted.
For a pub or restaurant meal, head to the market towns of Stamford, Southwell, Ashbourne or Bakewell.
Every month brings something different. Here's what's on.
The bigger cabins at Goosedale and Darwin Forest sleep up to eight, so a luxury lodge often works out cheaper per head than a hotel when you share with friends.
