Edward I's unfinished, near-perfectly symmetrical moated castle on Anglesey, part of a World Heritage Site.
Beaumaris Castle on Anglesey was the last of Edward I's royal strongholds in Wales, designed by James of St George beside the Menai Strait. Four concentric rings of defences, a water-filled moat with its own dock and a near-perfect symmetrical plan make it a striking sight.
Tip: Use the main town car park opposite for the most direct route in, and watch for two-way traffic there.

Anglesey Sea Zoo is an independent aquarium and marine conservation centre on the south coast of Anglesey, near Brynsiencyn. Over 40 tanks show native British sea life, including octopus, lobsters, seahorses, conger eels and jellyfish. Highlights include the No Bone Zone for invertebrates, a wolf fish lair, a real crashing wave, a shipwreck and a kelp forest full of big fish.
Tip: No need to book ahead, as tickets are bought on the door. Standard and family tickets stay valid for 6 days after the day of purchase, so you can return for free in that time.

Plas Newydd is a country house on the north bank of the Menai Strait, with views across the water to Snowdonia. The house has origins in 1470 and was long the seat of the Marquesses of Anglesey.
Tip: Dogs on short leads are welcome in the gardens, but not on the Terraces. Autumn is a busy season for the red squirrels, so stay quiet in the woods.

Caernarfon Castle is a medieval fortress in Gwynedd, north-west Wales. Edward I began replacing an earlier motte-and-bailey castle with the current stone structure in 1283, and it was built on a grand scale as the administrative centre of north Wales.

A 37-acre zoo near Colwyn Bay with chimpanzees, red pandas, otters, lemurs and a children's farm.
The Welsh Mountain Zoo is a zoological garden near Colwyn Bay in Conwy County Borough. It covers 37 acres and has been open since 1963, so it has built up a good range of animal areas over the years.
Tip: Check the zoo's website before you go, as the sources note that animal exhibits such as the sea lions have changed over time.

Walk into a Neolithic passage tomb on Anglesey, built to catch the midsummer sunrise.
Bryn Celli Ddu means "the mound in the dark grove". It is one of the best-known prehistoric monuments on Anglesey and is cared for by Cadw. The site began as a henge, a ritual enclosure with a ditch and a circle of upright stones, around 5,000 years ago. A passage tomb was built over it later in the Neolithic.
Tip: Head along the passage into the burial chamber, then look for the replica Pattern Stone behind it.

A Grade I listed Neo-Norman castle near Bangor with an internationally important art collection.
Penrhyn Castle is a country house at Llandygai, near Bangor in Gwynedd, built in the style of a Norman castle. Thomas Hopper rebuilt it in this Romanesque Revival form between 1822 and 1837, and it is Grade I listed. It is regarded as Hopper's finest work and as one of the most important country houses in Wales.

A well-preserved Edward I fortress with battlement walks and views to Eryri and over Conwy's harbour.
Conwy Castle was built by Edward I between 1283 and 1287 and is part of a World Heritage Site. Eight large towers and a high curtain wall still stand, and it has the best preserved set of medieval royal apartments in Wales. The ruins are split into an inner and an outer ward, with a Great Hall undercroft and chapels to explore.
Tip: Climb the spiral staircases and walk the full battlement circuit if you can. Cadw highly recommends it.

Great lodge we stayed there for a week, it was very homely
Excellent lodge, every need catered to, if I were to give a little constructive feedback it would be to provide better quality bedding and a bird table outside of the patio doors would be a nice addition but other than that everything was excellent.
A brilliant lodge. The owner was very welcoming on the phone a few days before, everything there. The lodge was immaculate and welcome pack was a very lovely touch. Thank you for a brilliant stay!

We had an amazing time at Anglesey Lodge. The Lodge was very well equipped and had everything we needed.The views onto lake are beautiful and the hot tub was great to relax in after a busy day out. I would recommend this lodge to anyone who would like a peaceful break away. We all hope to be back shortly.
The bed was incredibly comfortable and the lodge was equipped with everything we needed...and then some!
Absolutely amazing place would definitely go back again everything was perfect. The senary was amazing and to sit on the veranda and watch the ducks go by while chilling what more would you want .
Few minor issues with cabin but owner sorted them quickly and professionally. Owner very friendly and approachable.
An idyllic retreat. This lodge is perfect for switching off and immersing yourself in nature. Its really comfortable and has everything you need for a relaxing break, full of special touches. Everything is high spec and thoughtful. The lodge itself feels remote but you are actually close to towns with restaurants, shops and lots of amazing places to visit. Well definitely be back!
Overall the Lower Boathouse has all that you need. Unfortunately we do feel the shower cubicle really does need to be looked at/refurbished.

The lodge is very well equipped and very comfortable. The outdoor area could do with a bit of TLC - picnic bench needs revarnishing, BBQ needs gas burners cleaning and only 2 sun loungers for 4 people.All this said would definitely recommend if you enjoy relaxing in a peaceful location

A little expensive for two people but excellent value for a larger group of people. Well furnished with comfy sofas and throws. The twin room is a little cramped and no hanging space but plenty that can be used in the other bedrooms.A comfortable home with all the facilities and equipment you could need.
An amazing lodge really well equipped the owners Tracey and Daz keep you informed via friendly emails This will have been our overall 6th time at lakeside lodges and our 3rd in Alaw lodge and we will be returning next year.
Wonderful week at Cadnant at Anglesey Lakeland Lodges. Stunning surroundings and although you felt in the middle of nowhere we could easily and quickly reach all Anglesey had to offer. We stayed in comfort with everything we needed. The owners communicated well before, during and after our stay. Would highly recommend and would love to return

Stayed in Cadnant Lodge for a week. Good welcome pack with tea, coffee etc and a bottle of wine and nibbles with a handwritten note from our hosts (nice touch). Our hosts were very accessible and friendly.Everything we needed to start our holiday without fuss, washing up liquid, tea towels shampoo etc was provided.We stayed in dog friendly accommodation with our 2 small dogs and there was no evidence of previous doggy guests. The accommodation was very comfortable.The view over the lake from the lodge was superb and we were lucky enough see a kingfisher and a glimpsed a red squirrel running behind the lodge.The setting was lovely and peaceful (well, maybe not the geese lol). The weather was warm and the sitting area overlooking the well spaced out lodges was great. The grounds are extremely well maintained.Although you feel away from it all, you aren't and it's very handy for nearby attractions being just outside Menai and a short drive to Beaumaris and Benllech.All in all a great holiday!
Stunning lodge at the far end of 3 lakes, stunning view, quiet & secluded with loads of wildlife on your door step. Plenty to do nearby. Never disappointed when we visit that's why we have been back year after year. The hot tub is an added bonus as well. Spotlessly clean with lovely hosts just a phone call away.

Beautiful place, totally outstanding, the lodge was absolutely stunning, little jetty on the lake, full of fish and wildlife including cranes, very relaxing and peaceful, the finishing touches fine in detail, you just couldnt ask for anything more, excellent sized bedrooms even bedrooms very spacious , outside areas very pristine, lovely gestures bottle prosseco and nibbles, highly recommend for tranquility peace and back to nature ??????
A week in paradise. All furniture is extremely comfortable - the lodge is well equipped. The location is picturesque and peaceful.Tracey (the owner) cannot do enough for you and keeps you well informed of any speed restrictions on the island.
Fantastic break away, weve been many of times and the cabin is always spotless. Area is very peaceful and close to nearby pubs where you can eat or watch sports. Lovely walks not that far away.
We had a fantastic stay at this lovely cottage. Its perfectly situated for peace and quiet but still close enough to shops and local attractions. The hot tub and underfloor heating made everything super comfy. Rob, Sharon and Bonnie were genuinely friendly. Cant wait to return soon!

We stayed in Annog lodge. So quiet and peaceful. Saw geese, herons, kingfishers, ducks, swallows. Take a fishing rod there’s loads of carp. Kids loved catching them. Loads to do in surrounding area. Lodge was beautiful and Host was really helpful. Lots of lovely goodies left for our arrival. Would definitely come again.

Absolutely stunning lodge. We booked for 3 nights as a last min getaway, but will definitely return & for a longer stay nxt time. So peaceful & relaxing. Lodge very clean & well kept, (the owner) although we didn't meet her, was on hand vis txt or phonecall if needed (we had no problems).
