Picture it. Mist lifting off flat water at first light, a bite alarm chirping outside your door, and a private hot tub waiting on the decking for when the rods come in. Few counties do a fishing holiday as well as this one, with quiet, well stocked lakes under big skies rather than crowds. Better still, you can fish from breakfast to sunset without packing the car once, then walk twenty steps back to a warm, luxury lodge. That’s the whole appeal in one sentence!
We’ve compared seven fishing lodges Lincolnshire anglers can book through us, from a lakeside lodge ten miles from the city to woodland retreats in the Lincolnshire Wolds.
Every holiday park below has lakeside fishing on the doorstep.

Some suit couples who want peace and a rod each, others suit families who need a pool between sessions. Below you’ll find how they compare, what you can catch, the rules worth knowing and the licence you’ll need.

Woodhall Country Park, Woodhall Spa
Drive: about 32 minutes | Sleeps: up to 7 | Hot tubs: yes | Dogs: yes | Rating: 4.8

Designed with Natural England, each luxury lodge here sits in tranquil woodland full of wildlife, with views over the biggest of three well stocked lakes. Spend the morning carp fishing, then step back onto your deck and unwind in the hot tub as the light goes. Only guests and day pass holders can fish here, so the banks stay peaceful. Passes are sold for a day, a short stay or a long stay.
The rules are strict but fair: barbless hooks, unhooking mats, up to three rods, no night fishing, and every fish goes back. For lunch, stroll into Woodhall Spa, the Edwardian spa town known as the home of English golf.
Tattershall Lakes Country Park
Drive: about 36 minutes | Sleeps: up to 8 | Hot tubs: yes | Dogs: yes | Indoor pool: yes | Rating: 3.8

This is the big, lively one, and the best pick if only half your group fishes. The main Fishing Lake covers 15 acres with 30 pegs, Rudd Lake adds another two acres, and Merlin Point has two shallow pools that suit beginners. The park lists carp to 32lb and pike to 25lb!
Book at guest services. Fishing runs dawn till dusk, two rods per peg.
Everyone else gets an indoor pool, a splash zone, adventure golf, a spa and a man-made beach, so it works brilliantly as a family holiday.
Caistor Lakes, Lincolnshire Wolds
Drive: about 38 minutes | Sleeps: up to 4 | Hot tubs: yes | Dogs: yes | Rating: 4.9

Small, quiet and seriously well rated, Caistor covers seven acres of rural countryside in the heart of the Wolds. There are 16 lakeside cabins, each with a private deluxe hot tub, and nine let you cast straight from your own deck. Those nine are each a proper lakeside fishing lodge.
The Heron and Foundry pools hold carp, ide, crucian carp and barbel among others. Forgot your hooks? The site shop sells fishing supplies, and The Ugly Duckling bar and restaurant opens seven days a week, so nobody has to cook after a long session.
Camper UK Leisure Park, near Lincoln
Drive: about 18 minutes | Sleeps: up to 6 | Hot tubs: yes | Dogs: yes | Adults only | Rating: 4.9

Closest to the city and strictly adults only, Camper UK is the quiet couples’ getaway and a proper fishing holiday retreat. Its lake is stocked with common and mirror carp, and a lazy afternoon on the bank is exactly what the place is built for.
The location is handy too, only about ten miles from Lincoln, so a morning at the medieval cathedral and an evening session fit easily into one day. Dogs are welcome. Walks and cycle paths start close by, too.
Messingham Lakes, North Lincolnshire
Drive: about 41 minutes | Sleeps: up to 10 | Hot tubs: select cabins | Dogs: yes | Rating: 3.8

Bring the whole crew. Messingham spreads over 142 acres of mature trees and lakes, opens all year, and has wooden cabins from cosy one bedroom escapes up to four bedroom barns sleeping 10.
Choose one with a private garden and hot tub if you’d rather soak while the others tie rigs.
Willow Lakes, Ashby cum Fenby
Drive: about 49 minutes | Sleeps: up to 6 | Hot tubs: yes | Dogs: yes | Rating: 4.9

Every log cabin here sits along the edge of a fishing lake on the eastern side of the Wolds, a lakeside fishing lodge in the truest sense, so you can watch your float from the sofa. That’s about as relaxed as angling gets.
Inside, it’s modern and stylish, fully equipped for self catering. Private hot tubs sit outside. It’s a romantic retreat for two, and the coast at Cleethorpes is a short drive east when you fancy sea air.
Home Farm Park Lakeside Retreat
Drive: about 59 minutes | Sleeps: up to 8 | Hot tubs: yes | Dogs: yes | Rating: 4.5

Part of the Bouja boutique collection, Home Farm Park mixes caravan holiday homes and modern lakeside lodges in open countryside. The sandy beaches of the east coast are within easy reach.
Step onto your private veranda and the well stocked fishing lake is right there, so you can split the days between the bank and the beach.
Want no children on site? Woodthorpe Leisure Park near the coast is adults only as well, with fishing, hot tub accommodation and 43 acres of woodland.
What can you catch, and what are the rules?
These are coarse fisheries, so carp are the main draw, with silver fish for steady sport between runs. Pike add a bit of drama at Tattershall in the colder months. Rules differ from park to park, so here’s what three of them publish.
| Where | Waters | What you can catch | Rules worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tattershall | Fishing Lake (15 acres, 30 pegs), Rudd Lake (2 acres), Merlin Point (2 small pools) | Carp to 32lb, pike to 25lb, tench and bream to 8lb, perch, rudd, roach | Dawn till dusk, 2 rods per peg, barbless, no keepnets, no nuts or pulses |
| Woodhall Country Park | 3 pools, guests and pass holders only | Carp, roach, rudd, bream | Barbless, unhooking mats, up to 3 rods, no night fishing, all fish returned |
| Caistor | Heron and Foundry pools, plus swims by the cabins | Carp, ide, tench, bream, crucian carp, barbel, roach | Fishing supplies sold in the site shop |
Always read the board at reception when you arrive. Parks change bait rules and close swims for maintenance, and Woodhall has warned that Kingfisher Lake sits next to building work by reception.
Do you need a rod licence on a private lake?
Yes. The Environment Agency rod licence covers every water in England, private or not, and GOV.UK says you can be fined up to £2,500 if you can’t show one when asked. A park’s own pass is permission to fish their lake, not a licence.
- Children under 13 don’t need one.
- Juniors aged 13 to 16 need one, but it’s free.
- Adults can buy a 1 day, 8 day or 12 month licence, up to 30 days ahead.
- Buy online from GOV.UK or by phone from the Environment Agency.
The coarse close season, 15 March to 15 June, applies to rivers, streams and drains. Most stillwaters stay open all year, so a spring fishing break is fine.
Hot tubs, dogs or no kids: which one suits you?
Everyone wants something different from a lakeside getaway, so start with who’s coming.
- Couples: Camper UK or Caistor, where you can fish from the deck and relax in a private hot tub with nothing but water birds for company.
- Families: Tattershall for the indoor pool, or Home Farm Park for beach days.
- Groups of mates: Messingham and its four bedroom barns.
- Dog owners: all seven, though check which cabins are pet friendly when you book.
Our dog friendly search filters by pets for you, and the hot tub search narrows it down to fishing lodges with hot tubs and every other tub you could want.
When’s the best time for fishing in Lincolnshire?
Carp feed hardest when the water sits between about 12 and 18 degrees, so late spring to autumn is prime time. Autumn is a favourite with experienced anglers, as fish bulk up before winter. Even a mild day in deep winter can bring a bite, and the peaceful banks are a bonus.
What should you pack?
Most parks sell bits and pieces, but don’t count on it.
- Your rod licence, printed or on your phone
- Barbless hooks (required at Tattershall and Woodhall)
- Unhooking mat and landing net
- Bait that meets the park rules
- A cool bag for the lodge fridge
- Waterproofs and warm layers
- A comfy chair and a flask
- Polarised sunglasses
- Swimwear for the hot tub
- A dog towel for muddy banks
- Insect repellent
- Walking boots
What’s there to do off the bank?
The Lincolnshire Wolds became an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1973 and covers 558 square kilometres of rolling hills and hidden valleys between the city and the sea, so walks in nature are never far from your accommodation. The Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape site has routes to try.
Further east, Skegness and its sandy beaches are an easy trip from Home Farm Park, and our guide to lodges near Skegness covers the coast. In the south, Boston and the RSPB marshes at Frampton and Freiston Shore are brilliant for birdwatching, and the town’s location makes it an easy day out from the southern parks. For the Georgian streets of Stamford, see our Stamford guide.
Fishing lodge FAQs
Is fishing included in the price?
It depends on the park. Woodhall Country Park and Tattershall sell passes or permits on top of your stay, so check what’s included when you book.
Can I fish straight from my cabin?
At some, yes. Nine of the 16 cabins at Caistor have direct access, and every cabin at Willow sits along the water’s edge.
Which ones have hot tubs?
All seven in this guide. At Messingham only select cabins have one, so pick carefully.
Can I night fish?
Not at Woodhall Country Park or Tattershall, which are both day fishing only. Ask before you book if night sessions matter to you.
Are there adults only fishing breaks in the county?
Yes. Camper UK and Woodthorpe Leisure Park are both adults only, and both have fishing.
Do children need a fishing licence?
Under 13s don’t. Children aged 13 to 16 need a junior licence, which is free from GOV.UK.
Whichever lake you pick, you’ll come home with tired arms and a camera roll full of fish. Browse every Lincolnshire holiday lodge, or the wider East Midlands, and find a lodge holiday with a lake outside the door.
