Conifer Lodges

With an enviable location around a mile from the ancient market town of Newton Stewart, sit Conifer Lodges.  If you're looking to escape the daily grind and really get away from it all then we think this park is perfect.  You will feel like you are in a stunning secluded area surrounded by Pine Trees and yet you'll have plenty of amenities close by.  The best of both worlds!

An 18 hole golf course adjoins the park and there are many other courses including the famous Turnberry less than an hour's drive away. Anglers enjoy free fishing at nearby Palnure Burn together with abundant opportunities for sea and coarse fishing. There is superb walking in the unspoilt Galloway Forest and excellent mountain bike trails in Kirroughtree. Sandy beaches, sheltered coves, picturesque fishing villages, castles, historic monuments and lovely gardens are all close by.

The lodges provide a luxurious base for your stay. We like the Conifer Lodge which sleeps 4 in one double and one twin bedroom. The Lady Galloway lodge is also recommended which is a lovely open plan lodge with CD, fridge freezer, washing machine and BBQ. All of the lodges come with TV and DVD player, heating throughout and verandah with garden furniture.

If WiFi and hot tub were up to scratch we would have enjoyed it more as we booked two lodges to spend time with family who we dont see very often as they live 200 mile away . But as we made our own fun we still enjoyed break

Date of stay: 16th February 2018
Good value for money, great location and a nice quiet site. One or two of the furnishings showed their age but overall the lodges were nice, warm and comfortable.
I would have preferred access to the hot tub was near the back door rather than having to walk around the veranda in winter.
Lynsey, Glasgow

Date of stay: 13th October 2017
Was very well laid out and privacy at hot tub which was great . Only criticism is very dark, when big lights on too bright lighting could do with a couple more lamps in living area.

Date of stay: 16th June 2017
Found lodge very comfortable. One little snag though was finding out how to put the cooker on. Switch was not obvious and we had to seek assistance of staff who found it behind the microwave. A little note pointing to where switch was would have been helpful. Double showerheads in shower room took a bit of working out!
Sue, Glasgow

Facilities let down by limited kitchen utensils and no jug for measuring which limited our options for meals, although we were creative with our measuring.

It was perfect as it had the private hot tub.
Alison
Date of stay: 17th February 2017
Wonderful surroundings, nearby walking of Dogs through Golf Park grounds during winter . Tidy and clean site, and beautiful cabins. Master Bedroom a bit small for walking around the bed.couldn't open the door into the room fully as it hit the side of the bed. However, it was all comfortable and very clean and cosy, and we had a lovely private screen around the hot tub, and it was great looking up at the stars in the sky at night. Bring a torch with you, as the visibility is very poor without one, once it is dark, if exercising dogs or emptying rubbish to the bins late at night..
Stephen, Hexham
Date of stay: 13th February 2017
Bluebell lodge 7 was amazing the main living room area was very spacious and since there was only two of us there we did move the sofas closer together. The kitchen was fitted with everything we needed to cook any meal possible. The bedroom was very cosy and very comfy aswell, leading to 3 nights great sleep. The hot tub was great aswell and very private with it being in a closed rear garden area
Brian, Glasgow
Date of stay: 13th February 2017
Over and above our expectations. Perfect setting. Hot tub fantastic.
Only minor thing I can highlight is the lighting, could do with a couple more lamps, especially at dressing table in bedroom and sitting areas.
Lisa, Greenock
Date of stay: 13th February 2017
Only thing would've liked more lighting when out withy dog after tea was a bit scary pitch black.
Claire
Date of stay: 6th February 2017
We had a lovely relaxing break at the lodge, stunning inside and out great location with lovely restaurants just a mile away, would definitely recommend and will be returning our self's in the near future.
Gemma, Sheffield
Date of stay: 3rd February 2017
Was quiet and secluded with lots of walks for the dog. En loved front porch meant I didn't have to worry about him escaping and we managed to get the 1 lodge with an enclosed back garden with high enough fences that even our husky cross couldn't jump! Lived every second and staff were more than helpful. We will be coming back next year.
Vivienne, Enniskillen
Date of stay: 27th January 2017
These holiday lodges were very warm and welcoming with everything we needed. They were spotless and very comfortable with lots of daylight and beautiful views.
Blair, Glasgow
Date of stay: 23rd January 2017
The lodge was great. Had everything that was needed. Although on the first night I was out in the hot tub. And someone was looking for their lodge and walked into mine. I had to get the map and show them where it was. So i think the numbers could do will being illuminated. And on the final night the hot tub stoped heating up and dropped to 34. Which was too cold to stay in.
Jean, Paisley
Date of stay: 23rd January 2017
Over all a great place to escape the rat race...quiet &peaceful even though the lodges were busy you don't get roundly noises..only complaint is the staircase up to twin beds it's quite daunting to go up &down but it wouldn't stop us returning.
Craig, Penicuik
Date of stay: 16th January 2017

The Lord Galloway lodge (we were in number 32, as you look at the row of 6 lodges, no. 32 is second from the right, with the first immediately next to the entrance track that passes the hotel) are new-ish lodges and the building and interior matches to this.
A large L-shaped deck runs along the front and the right side of the building, the entrance/exit being gated to ensure that children and pets can be allowed freedom outside without wandering off. There are tables and chairs with an umbrella at the front corner of the decking and the hot tubs are situated up the back of the decking at the back right corner of the lodge. There are large double doors, both opening, entering into the lodge leading straight into the spacious living area with corner sofa, table, side board containing the blu-ray player and bluetooth audio system with the large flat screen TV hung above it. Around the corner is a door leading to a little hallway with 3 doors running off it for the downstairs bathroom (toilet, spacious shower, illuminated mirror over the sink, towel rail - same as in all 3 of the bathrooms) and the 2 twin bedrooms, one looking out the rear of the lodge and the other overlooking the gate and your parking area at the front. You also then see the spiral staircase leading to the king-size bedrooms upstairs and the kitchen to the right. The kitchen is equipped with a full height fridge freezer (3 drawers in the freezer, a refreshing change), a washing machine, dishwasher and single grill/fan oven combination with an electric hob above it. All are obviously new-ish appliances and worked fine - we used the washing machine multiple times (we had our children with us!) as we did the dishwasher. The dishwasher was out of rinse aid and salt, who knows how long it had been for, so we sported the money and brought rinse aid to at least top that up. Oven glove provision was not great, it consisted of a single silicone glove, and we ended up using a doubled up kitchen towel to get things out of the oven. There was also a lack of sharp knives ans scissors (I don't think the ones in the drawer would have cut butter) and flat baking trays. Again, we sported the money to buy all these things and other than the scissors, we left it all there to help the next people.
At the back of the lodge behind the kitchen, there is a large dining table overlooking the back of the lodge. With the angles of the roof line, the ceilings are higher in places and velux windows have been located in the dining and living area making these spaces wonderfully light. I wouldn't plan on trying to open these windows as they are so high up I am sure the builders must have been the last to open them.
We had one complaint that we made about the TV that never got resolved and there were also niggles and grumbles I had from a practical and mother perspective. We complained about the TV, as despite it being a new 40inch LG flat screen, there wasn't any headphone socket on it. As my husband is partially deaf, this meant that he couldn't hear the TV and he spent 98% of the holiday in the evening resigned to his iPad. We had gone equipped with headphones and splitters (as we expect him to not be able to hear but have not encountered a TV in a lodge without a socket before, even on much older TVs). We complained about this to the staff but they never came back to us despite saying that they would try to locate an alternative TV. We even investigated ordering something from Amazon that would use the HDMI out to enable us to use headphones but as we couldn't get that delivered till the Tuesday and we were only there for a week, it wasn't worth the £50 it would have cost us.
The practical grumbles were really surrounding a lack of hooks to hang coats from and places to store wet and dirty wellies without leaving them on the lovely laminate floor. There is a cupboard adjacent to the dining table which is accessed by the grandest of double doors (you throw them open the first time expecting something amazing behind them) which contains all the underfloor heating controls and piping, the water heater/pump and boiler etc. The cupboard is only the depth of a boiler but quite wide and with the width of the doors, they would be ideal for putting hooks on the back of the doors for hanging wet coats on etc. There is an airer in there for drying clothes (there isn't a clothes line outside that we found) which will fit in the cupboard with the doors closed. We did have a play with the underfloor heating (thermostate control at the base of the spiral stairs) but you have to allow a good few hours to feel any heat coming up through the floor.
The storage space for folded clothes in the back twin bedroom is slightly lacking, but is better in the front twin where it has a proper chest of drawers plus the wardrobe. There are plenty of coat hangers.
Upstairs there is a large drawer unit which provides space for folded clothing for the bedroom at the front. The front upstairs bedroom is really the master bedroom as this contains the freestanding bath plus balcony off it. The hanging space is not great in this room, it consists of a low height cupboard converted to include hanging space. It is low height as the small TV is on the wall above it, and with the bath in the room, there isn't anywhere else to put a cupboard. The bath is huge and deep, I used it once and my husband (who is 6' did get it in without water) did say that it was a vast improvement on our one at home. Both of the upstairs ensuite bathrooms have velux windows that can be opened by someone tall and a little agile to allow fresh air to vent. We used the ensuite velux to allow fresh air into the bedroom overnight, as whilst you have both a door and an opening window in the bedroom, due to the long heavy curtains and the design of the window, they are not so useful overnight. Another tip is that the front bedroom has clearly been far more used as we swopped to sleeping in the back bedroom halfway through our week there. Both my husband and I were experiencing a lot of pain in a morning which eased when we swopped to the back bedroom where the mattress was nowhere near as bumpy or soft. The curtains are also a dark heavy velvet in the back room (where they are a cream linen type fabric in the front) which meant you didn't rouse so early in the morning (kids noise downstairs not withstanding).
Water pressure is amazing in all taps and showers and we never ran out of hot water. So no complaints there. Heated towel rails are amazingly effective and have a useful 2 hour setting on them so you can set them to auto switch off after towels and clothes have dried without consuming loads of electricity if you are heading out for the day (and leaving everything too hot, as they do heat the rooms too!).
Each Lord Galloway has its own wifi/internet hub and this was really our saviour with the TV being useless to us. The signal is strong and stable, and I was able to watch Netflix on my iPad whilst my husband was surfing the net on his, and the kids playing games online on their Hudls! Mobile signal (we are on EE) was fine, patchy 4G indoors amazing for Scotland middle of nowhere and the wifi ensured that our phones stayed available for us. This was important as we run our own business from home and had diverted our home line to my husbands mobile, ensuring our business kept running even though we were away.
Hot tub is lovely, slighty overlooked from certain angles, but the good framework for the cover provides privacy from the rear (this would have better turned 90 degrees to allow screening from the road that was partially exposed due to the end lodge next to us being slightly set further forward). There are steps to climb up to the hot tub and all jets and the internal light were working and controllable. The pH levels were checked daily and we had no grumbles about the hot tub really. There are hooks on the lodge wall next to the tub to allow your robes and towels to be hung from (I was slightly creeped out by the concept of spiders and bugs being able to get into/onto them whilst they were hung there, but just gave them a good shake before putting them on and told myself to stop being stupid!). Others have complained about the lighting outside. There are 2 lights on the side of the lodge where the entrance doors and hot tub is, and 2 on the front of the lodge. A switch inside by the entrance doors controls the lights at the front and the one by the lodge doors. A second switch outside close to the hooks by the hot tub independently controls the second light close to the hot tub. This is really useful as it meant that we could keep the lights at the front off so as not to disturb our son in the front bedroom but still have light (if we wanted it) by the hot tub. We loved using the tub after dark and once the kids were in bed and enjoying the stars, and the light inside the hot tub was enough to safely into and out of the tub by.
All in all a lovely well equipped high-standard lodge, that other than TV issue, we would definitely visit again if we wanted a chill out holiday again.
Lisa, Keighley
Date of stay: 29th August 2016
Lovely. Just needed better lighting it is quite dark with being set in a forest. Stronger light bulbs in the kitchen would be a plus. Must be quite dismal in winter.

Date of stay: 29th July 2016
My family and myself really enjoyed our holiday at conifer lodge. Comfortable and relaxing easy base to go out and visit different places people we met were very friendly.
The only negative were the staff on site. The receptionist didn't really say much because we were early it was go away we are busy. When we went back the lodge was not ready on time the key couldn't be found and cleaners still in it, made to feel we shouldn't be there floor hadn't been cleaned so with two small dogs needed to wait for floors to dry(our fault for been on time) but having a good time we would come again.

Date of stay: 15th July 2016
We found the park to be quite peaceful even though access was through a housing estate. The staff at reception were very friendly and the park clean and tidy. We had a one bedroom lodge, this included a bathroom, living room and kitchen area. The hot tub was located in a screened off area around the side of the lodge. The kitchen was well equipped with plates, cutlery ect and the bedroom was beautifully made up. The hot tub was a new experience for us and very welcome after a long day exploring the area. There are supermarkets nearby in Newton Stewart and plenty of locations and attractions to visit. We will definetly come back!

Great week in a spacious cabin which had all we needed as a family with a dog. Staff were great and extremely helpful, all you had to do was ask and they did what ever was asked. Would defiantly visit again. The surrounding area is fantastic to visit and your never to far from somewhere to go. The dark skies help you see the stars and more even from the cabin And the hot tub was great, an everyday must.

Date of stay: 7th September 2015
Our lodge was spotless when we arrived. Fresh and bright decor inside and all the facilities were there (microwave, cutlery, toaster, etc) The hot tub was treated every day and was always spotless. There was a welcome pack and visitor attraction leaflets in the cabin, which was a huge help as we hadn't been in that area before so we knew what was around us. Bluebell lodge was the ideal location for a perfect holiday and we will return in the future.

Lovely surroundings. Helpful staff. Very clean and well equipped lodges. Hot tubs great. Only criticism is that with all the interior wood and surrounding trees the lodge was a bit dark and gloomy.

Date of stay: 13th July 2015
The Bluebell Lodge had all the amenities lovely shower room with a very good shower cubicle, the bedroom had loads of space and a lovely very comfortable king size bed and the kitchen was well equipped and very clean, good size lounge with television and dvd player. My only complaint was that the large windows in the lounge required cleaning on the outside but other than that the lodge was spotless.

Date of stay: 10th April 2015
The basic lodge (Lodge 9) is comfortable, clean and well equipped. Only minor grumble was the double bed. Although comfortable and supportive it was rather short, a bed for a hobbit!
I would happily return to Conifer Lodge but perhaps to one with a king bed.
Bonus - pets allowed!

The nicest lodge we have stayed in!! We weren't expecting much as it was such a good price but it felt luxurious and was a real treat! Would have liked an enclosed garden area ( even a small one) for the dogs though.

Date of stay: 26th January 2015
Living room is a little old fashioned, and the connection between the TV and the DVD player wasn't great so we kept losing sound (nothing too bad as you could wiggle the cable to get it working again - lodge 7). Bedroom and kitchen were lovely, layout of lodge was lovely, and hot tub and enclosed garden were perfect!

The hot tub was to warm and couldn't ajust the heat! I have stayed in other log cabins and they were far better than this!. Never saw any staff apart from the grounds people who kept the area beautiful and clean. There was no light for sitting outside and we only had a torch to use.
Joanne, Bedlington

Lodge was perfect, plenty room and storage space for everything you need to take with you for a holiday in Scotland. Lovely setting, nice and quiet. Hot tub great and lovely deck with patio furniture. Good standard of fixtures and fittings - home from home. Would recommend these lodges. Only down side was the area was a bit difficult to entertain a teenager apart from outdoor pursuits centre which was quite expensive. Very quiet area of Scotland i would say, more to do if you have younger children with you. Still had a great time though.

Date of stay: 7th July 2014
Accommodation was great and only a slight lower score on the fittings as the kitchen was a little bit tight with only a fridge with a small freezer, the shower facility wasn't great and was only adequate. Apart from that there wasn't much to complain about.

We stayed in a Conifer Lodge Plus (with Hot tub)
The lodge was beautiful.. All new appliances, very clean and the hot tub was spotless. The bedroom was lovely and comfortable and the bathroom - spacious and clean. We enjoyed relaxing in the lounge on the recliners & enjoyed the view from our big window in the living room area. Hot tub was secluded and very clean.. Didn't want to leave this lovely lodge.. So much so that we are already planning the next time we can get away from work and chill out!!
We have told all our friends about this site & how we loved it!

Loved our lodge, as this was our second visit both birchlodge plus lodges weve stayed in....(22&23) were lovely, very peaceful and comfortable, very comfortable beds!
Mark
We spent a weekend here in the bluebell lodge during the Easter holidays. The holiday park was quiet during the day and night times and although we went on a cold weekend, the hot tub kept us warm- well maintained (the water is checked each day) . The lodge was beautiful although I was gutted there was no dishwasher. Except from this I couldn’t fault the lodge, area or staff.
Sarah
Lovely place, good if you like peace and quiet...no facilities apart from lundrette...but it states that!
Julia
Poor advice on facilities available. No information on how to deal with rubbish. Poor selection of kitchen equipment.
Catrina
Lovely lodges and facilities. Nice treat seeing the local deer/stags
Sarah
Lovely lodges. Really homely and comfortable. Excellent location for a quiet get away, or for an adventure with the kids!
Richard
very nice lodge. very roomy
Samantha
The lodge was lovely. But location is to far from any known supermarkets or shops. Not much info on local attractions so spent most the week in the car looking for something to do
Julie
Only thing was signposting for our lodge was not very clear especially as the park is so dark. We spent a fair bit of time looking for our lodge before luckily finding a member of staff who guided us
Alexis
Arrived around tea time just before reception closed, easy check-in, key was in door and everything was ready for us. Very clean and comfortable, the heating was on and it was very cosy. Felt like going from home to home, there was even a blanket, treats and bags for the dog. Very good value for money.
Lesley
Lovely place, everything you need, very clean.

Fun Days Out near Conifer Lodges

about 11 Miles

An outdoor activity center suitable for families. Featuring one of Europe's longest zip wires, jeep driving, grass sledging, archery, outdoor scooters. A mix of fun and adreneline rides and a lot more.

about 20 Miles
We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.
about 33 Miles
Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
