Close to many of Suffolk's coastal towns, Claywood Retreat Lodges sit in peaceful woodland and offer a range of activities from golf to clay pigeon shooting. Nearby Southwold has a fabulous seafront, a busy harbour and some great shops, while a walk around the fens at Darsham Marshes nature reserve could produce sightings of reed warblers, otters and water voles.

Each lodge overlooks a stunning 9-hole golf course and the park has access to the High Lodge Leisure club where there's a restaurant and bar and fishing in the lakes. Darsham has several village pubs, including The Fox Inn that serves good food every night - and if you want to buy freshly caught crab and lobster, head to Aldeburgh, where you can also enjoy some lovely walks.

These stunning lodges all have private outdoor hot tubs. Claywood Two is beautifully designed and furnished to a very high standard. It has a master king size double room with an ensuite two person walk-in shower, a contemporary and spacious open plan lounge/kitchen, a large flat screen TV and gorgeous chunky sofas, perfect for relaxing into.

You can hire a rowing boat on The Meare at Thorpeness or relax on a guided trip up the River Alde at Aldeburgh, where you can also amuse yourselves with live concerts, brewery tours and fine dining.

Our Top Tip
"The Martello Towers were built to keep Napoleon out and you can view these fabulous structures whilst taking a gentle walk along the Suffolk coastline."

Fun Days Out in Suffolk

Africa Alive

Africa Alive is one of Suffolk's largest attractions and one of the most popular in the whole of the UK.  The Africa themed park is very unique and gives visitors the chance to see some amazing creatures in a habitat which is as close to nature as possible. The park can be explored by car and on foot and Hyenas and Giraffes are just some of the animals you will encounter as you make your way around the park. Watch out for the lightning fast Cheetahs and keep your eyes peeled to spot the more reclusive creatures. During a day at Africa Alive there will be plenty of shows and educational talks taking place and if the weather turns then the indoor Adventure Play Ground comes in very handy. The site also has a well stocked Gift Shop and a Discovery Centre.

Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park

Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park is an amazing 50 acres area of stunning coastal parkland and is packed with family friendly rides and attractions. This park is an excellent choice for families with children of varied ages as there are a number of small rides for the little ones as well as some adrenaline boosting white knuckle rides for teenagers. As well as rides the site hosts some fantastic shows including the ever popular Sea Lion and Parrot encounters. At Halloween, Christmas and Easter other themed shows can also be enjoyed.  The site also has a good range of places to eat and drink whether you are looking to spend a leisurely hour relaxing with a meal or just grab a quick snack.

Lodge was very clean and very well equipped didn't need to take anything. Very comfortable only quibble for us was that it quoted a king size bed in the master but it was only a double so found it a bit of a squash.

Excellent accommodation in beautiful grounds. Our weekend was not long enough there especially as it rained throughout but that did not stop us enjoying the hot tub. Very comfortable and well equipped lodge. Loved it.

Beautiful lodge in a beautiful location, peaceful, clean and wonderful staff. Perfect eeek away for our anniversary. Can't wait to come back! Loved the welcome fudge too
Really cold weather the weekend we stayed but the lodge was so warm, cosy and luxurious.
I was very surprised when I arrived at one of the lodges, clean, tidy and respectable. Will be definitely returning soon
Beautiful lodge high standard and very relaxing. Just what I hoped for
We had a lovely time at High Lodge. The lodge was spacious and comfortable. There is a cafe which we used once for lunch and that was fine. Activities for adults only. Location central for the coastal resorts to visit.
Never knew a holiday could be this relaxing and so wonderful in the middle of January is freezing cold Britain. Everything was perfect and the added extras you get just made it so special.
