By evening you’ll be glad of somewhere quiet to go back to, and that’s where a lodge comes in.

All six of these parks are pet friendly and all six have hot tub lodges, so the real choice comes down to location. Want sea views and a five-minute drive into town? Go for the first two. For a pool and a restaurant on site, look at Killerby Old Hall, and for lakes or moorland quiet, head a little further inland. They’re listed closest first.

If you’re after accommodation with a hot tub in Scarborough, every park above has properties with their own private tub, and you can see the full list of hot tub lodges across the UK if you’d like to compare further afield. Around Scarborough the tubs tend to sit on the decking or veranda, looking out over farmland, woodland, a golf course or a lake.
On a clear night, out in the fields away from the town lights, the stars put on a good show.
A couple of practical things. Check whether the one you like has a tub, rather than assuming the whole park does, because at bigger parks it can vary from one cabin to the next. And if you’re bringing children, look at the park’s own rules on hot tub use for under-16s before you go.
Good news for dog owners: every park on this page takes pets, which makes these some of the easiest holiday lodges in Scarborough to book with a dog, and there are plenty more on our pet friendly lodge search. The beaches are where you need to plan.
North Yorkshire Council runs a seasonal dog ban from 1 May to 30 September on signposted zones of Scarborough’s two main beaches, as well as stretches at Filey, Whitby West Cliff and Sandsend. Here’s how it works in Scarborough:
Cayton Bay is a great local favourite. It’s about ten minutes south of town, dogs can go on the sand all year round and there’s a steep path down from the clifftop parking, so it’s worth wearing proper shoes. Peasholm Park welcomes dogs too, and Dalby Forest is dog friendly across the whole site.
Climb up to the castle on its headland and you’ll see both bays, the harbour and the coast stretching north towards Ravenscar. English Heritage looks after it, and the grounds include the remains of a Roman signal station, an Anglo-Saxon church and a huge wildflower meadow. Check the English Heritage opening times before you go, as hours change through the year.
Just below the castle walls, Anne Brontë is buried in the auxiliary graveyard of St Mary’s Church. She died in Scarborough in 1849, and her grave looks out to sea.
Head down to South Bay and the Rotunda Museum, which opened in 1829 as one of the world’s first purpose-built museums. It’s all about the coast’s geology, with Jurassic fossils and finds from Star Carr dating back 11,000 years. Scarborough Art Gallery is a short walk away in an Italianate villa on The Crescent.
Peasholm Park is a Japanese-style garden with a pagoda, waterfalls and a lake you can paddle round in a dragon boat. In July and August the famous Naval Warfare show takes over the water on set afternoons, with model warships battling it out to explosions and smoke. Free bandstand concerts run on Sundays from June to September.
Across the road you’ll find the North Bay Railway, Sea Life Scarborough and the Alpamare water park. The open air theatre at Northstead Manor Gardens hosts big summer concerts too, with the season running from late May to September.
The Cleveland Way National Trail runs right through Scarborough on its 109-mile loop from Helmsley to Filey Brigg. Walk north from Ravenscar to Hayburn Wyke for open clifftops and a wooded descent to a waterfall on the beach, then come back along the Cinder Track, the old Scarborough to Whitby railway line that closed in 1965 and is now a 21-mile walking and cycling path.
It’s a cracking day out, so pack a flask.
Much of the best of a stay in Scarborough is out of town, and with the car at your lodge the whole coast opens up. Here’s how far the best days out are from Scarborough itself.
| Day out | Drive from Scarborough | Dogs? | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cayton Bay | About 10 minutes | Yes, all year | Surf beach and fossil hunting, steep path down from the parking |
| Filey and Filey Brigg | About 20 minutes | Seasonal zone on the main beach | The Cleveland Way finishes on the Brigg |
| Robin Hood’s Bay | About 30 minutes | Yes | Park at the top of the village, the road down is very steep |
| Pickering and the steam railway | About 30 minutes | Yes, except on dining trains | Steam trains run to Goathland and on to Whitby when the line is open |
| Whitby | About 40 minutes | Seasonal zone on West Cliff | 199 steps up to the abbey, fish and chips on the harbour |
| Dalby Forest | About 45 minutes to an hour | Yes | Forest trails, Go Ape, Gruffalo trail, Dark Sky Discovery Site |
Dalby is the big one for families. It covers more than 8,500 acres of forest on the edge of the North York Moors, with walking and cycle trails, Go Ape, the Gruffalo orienteering course and a visitor centre with a café. Forestry England charges for parking by the hour, and dogs are welcome on the trails. On a clear night it’s a Dark Sky Discovery Site too, so stay late if the forecast’s good.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is worth planning around. Repairs to Bridge 42 near Grosmont have cut the line short more than once this year, so check the timetable before you set off. If Whitby takes your fancy for a whole break, our guide to lodges near Whitby covers the parks up there, and for food and Flamingo Land there are lodges near Malton too.
You can’t come to Scarborough without fish and chips. Mother Hubbard’s on Westborough is one of the best rated in town and welcomes dogs, while Wackers has a full gluten-free menu with a separate fryer. For a drink, the Golden Ball on Sandside is a Sam Smith’s pub with mock Tudor timbers, a fire in winter and views across the harbour to the lighthouse. The Leeds Arms is a good dog friendly pub too.
Summer brings long evenings, the shows at Peasholm and the open air concerts, but it’s also when the dog zones are in force and Scarborough is at its busiest. Many families come back in September instead. The sea is at its warmest, the beaches are quieter and the heather on the North York Moors is still out.
Winter is quiet, and the last few months of the year are the best time for a cheaper holiday on the Yorkshire coast. This year Scarborough Lights runs from 12 November to 20 December 2026, lighting up the castle headland, the harbour and Peasholm Park, with most of it free (details on The Scarborough Fair website).
The coast here can swing from sunshine to sea fret in an hour, so pack for both.
Scarborough Lodge Retreat sleeps up to eight, which makes a big lodge a smart way to bring two families or a group of friends together. Split between everyone, the cost per person can come out lower than you’d expect, and you all get the hot tub.
Yes. All six parks on this page have lodges with their own hot tub, from Scarborough Lodge Retreat about five minutes from town to Wold View Farm in the Yorkshire Wolds.
All six featured parks welcome pets: Scarborough Lodge Retreat, Applegrove Country Park, Killerby Old Hall, Snainton Luxury Lodges, Pickering Lodges and Wold View Farm. Check the number of dogs allowed when you book.
From 1 May to 30 September dogs aren’t allowed in the signposted zones on North Bay and South Bay. Outside those zones, and from October to April, they’re welcome. Cayton Bay allows dogs all year.
Scarborough Lodge Retreat is about five minutes’ drive from town, followed by Applegrove Country Park at Burniston and Killerby Old Hall near Cayton Bay.
Killerby Old Hall has a heated indoor swimming pool, along with a restaurant and a guests-only bar.
Whitby is roughly 40 minutes’ drive from Scarborough, and Robin Hood’s Bay is about 30 minutes, so both make easy days out.
Whether you want the Highland cows and sea views at Scarborough Lodge Retreat or a lakeside deck at Pickering, the lodges near Scarborough give you the seaside and the moors in one trip. You’ll find more Scarborough lodge rentals and parks across the Yorkshire Moors and Coast and the wider Yorkshire lodges page, or go straight to the Book Holiday Lodge homepage to search every holiday lodge in the UK by date.
