A charity sanctuary for rescued exotic animals, set inside a Victorian fort opposite Sandown's Yaverland beach.
The Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, formerly the Isle of Wight Zoo, is a charity that rescues and protects exotic animals. It sits on Yaverland Road in Sandown, directly opposite the beach, inside the shell of Sandown Fort, which dates from 1864. Visitors walk round the enclosures to see rescued big cats, bears and lemurs, among other animals.
Tip: Pay for parking at the machine just outside the café, as the car park next to the sanctuary is privately run and the sanctuary can't appeal fines.

Blackgang Chine opened in 1843 and is the UK's oldest theme park. It covers over 40 acres of cliff-top gardens and themed lands, with outdoor rides, walkthrough attractions and heritage exhibitions, all with views over the Isle of Wight coast.
Tip: Leave bikes and scooters behind, as the paths are steep and uneven. Standard tickets include free returns for up to seven days, so you needn't rush.

Ride restored Victorian and Edwardian steam carriages through 5½ miles of Isle of Wight countryside.
The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is a heritage line running through about 5½ miles of countryside from Smallbrook Junction to Wootton, calling at Havenstreet, where the station, headquarters and depot are. It is run largely by volunteers, and the carriages include restored examples built between 1864 and 1924. Several steam locomotives are in use, some well over 100 years old.
Tip: The railway doesn't run every day, so check its calendar before you go. A direct bus serves Havenstreet from Newport and Ryde.

Carisbrooke Castle is a historic motte-and-bailey fortress near Newport on the Isle of Wight. It began as an Anglo-Saxon earthwork defence against Viking raids, and the Normans later raised the shell keep on its towering mound. You can climb the keep for views, and walk the walls.

The Spinnaker Tower is a 170-metre landmark on Portsmouth Harbour, and one of the tallest accessible structures in the UK outside London. Two huge, sweeping white arcs give it the look of a sail billowing in the wind, a nod to Portsmouth's maritime history. Local people chose the design in a public poll.
Tip: Head for the glass floor on the first deck, and wrap up if you go up to the open-roofed Sky Deck.

We had such a lovely stay at Goddard's Mead! Rob, Sharon and Bonnie made us feel really welcome from the start. The buildings been beautifully renovated, respecting its history, which we really appreciated. The locations perfect for exploring Essexs charming villages and historic spots around Thaxted. Honestly, its a great spot if you want somewhere cosy and peaceful. Wed definitely recommend it for a relaxing getaway - well be back for sure!

We had a really lovely stay! Sharon and Robert made us feel so welcome from the start, which was lovely. The place had everything we needed-spotlessly clean, comfy and secure for our dog Archie. The location was perfect, with loads of scenic walks nearby. We also enjoyed exploring Thaxted and the surrounding villages. Honestly, it was just what we needed to recharge our batteries and we left feeling totally relaxed!

The owners, Sharon and Rob, were quick to respond whenever we had questions. Our dogs loved the enclosed garden and the hot tub was definitely a highlight. The place itself is surprisingly spacious and well-equipped, especially the kitchen and bathroom. The bed was super comfy and the garden, dog-proof and private, was perfect for relaxing. We enjoyed exploring the walks nearby and ate at some nice spots in Thaxted-The Star and The Maypole were our favourites. Honestly, wed recommend it if youre after a peaceful getaway!

We spent a week here in mid-July with our two mini dachshunds and honestly, the dogs loved it! They made some friends in the charming village of Thaxted, which was a lovely bonus. The cottage itself is really cosy and the hot tub was a real highlight-especially with the hot weather, the cool water was so refreshing. The hosts were genuinely friendly and welcoming and it was nice to see their dogs being taken out to the fields daily. Plus, watching the planes land near Stansted added a bit of excitement. Wed definitely recommend it!

We had such a great stay at this lovely spot! The setting is super peaceful and private, perfect for a relaxing break. The owners are really friendly and gave us just the right amount of help, without intruding. The hot tub was a highlight after a long day cycling - bliss! Only thing to mention is that its right under Stansteds flight path, so theres quite a bit of aircraft noise. It didnt bother us much once we got used to it, but its worth knowing if youre sensitive to noise. Overall, a fantastic place!

we have been coming to the island for years and this has been the best time we have had, The staff were amazing, the pool and life guards were great, the kids loved it when the life guard squirted them with the hose.
To be able to walk to a beach on site and also have priory Bay in walking distance was a massive highlight for me, I've already been sending people links for Nodes point and will definitely be booking for next year.
Hearing all their laughter and seeing my kids faces light up and be so happy and relaxed was the cherry on the cake for both my husband and I.

Entertainment & pub were top notch
We had a very enjoyable experience with the facilities and friendliness of staff. The only downside was in the availability of food in the restaurant. For a seaside resort to not have fish and chips available all week is not good. Also by wednesday the scampi had run out and there were no Pizzas available after the first night for the rest of the week. I had plenty of choice but my two muslim refugees can only eat Halal meat so without fish or pizzas there was very little choice on the menu for them. Surely in the 21st century there could be at least one Halal option. The table ordering did not work and with only 1 member of staff taking orders and getting drinks the queues were long and slow.

Best holiday ever, 1st time to the Isle of white and was not disappointed. The park is amazing with fantastic views and amazing staff. The lodge was spotless with everything you need. The food on site is great value for money and tastes great. We loved it that much we plan to book again for even longer.
