St Andrews Cathedral in Fife was begun in 1158 and was the largest church ever built in Scotland. The ruins show it was around 119 metres long. It was the seat of the Archbishops of St Andrews and the centre of the medieval Catholic Church in Scotland, and legend says Robert the Bruce rode up the aisle on his horse when it was consecrated in 1318.

Loch Leven Castle is a ruined fortress on an island in the middle of Loch Leven, reached by ferry. Dunfermline Abbey was founded in 1128 by King David I, building on an earlier priory from the reign of his father, Malcolm III. After Iona, it received more of Scotland's royal dead than anywhere else in the kingdom. You can visit the tomb of Robert the Bruce, and the ruined Lady chapel holds the tomb of Saint Margaret and Malcolm Canmore.
Tip: Head for the Romanesque nave first, then walk next door to see the ruins of Dunfermline Palace.

Lovely lodge. Perfect for a U.K. break
Needed a bit of thought around what could use in microwave as no plastic to use. No jug and only 4 of each knife fork and spoon meant washing up as only provided 4 dishwasher tablets for a week away. Did enjoy the hot tub but only allowed to use before 10pm meant not able to use beneath the stars. Overall the location is excellent but could use a little more luxury.
Daniel is a non verbal man with autism he really loved his stay in the lodge you all made hom feel very welcome.

We had such a lovely stay at this cosy spot tucked away in a peaceful, private area. The owners were super friendly and always happy to help if needed, but kept a good distance to preserve the tranquillity. The hot tub was a real highlight after a long day cycling around. Just a heads up, the cottage is right under Stansteds flight path, so theres quite a bit of aircraft noise. It didnt bother us much once we got used to it, but if you're sensitive to noise, its worth keeping in mind. Overall, a great little getaway!

We recently stayed at Goddards Mead for a week and honestly, it was lovely. The cottage had everything we needed and felt really cosy. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming. Despite being on a working farm, it was surprisingly peaceful and quiet. Definitely recommend!

We had a really lovely time during our stay! Sharon and Robert made us feel super welcome from the start. The place was spotlessly clean, comfy and perfect for our dog Archie - felt very secure. The location was just right, with loads of nice walks nearby and Thaxted and the surrounding villages are absolutely charming. We definitely left feeling refreshed and relaxed, it was just what we needed!

We had such a lovely weekend stay here! Everything was just right for us and we really enjoyed our time. The underfloor heating was a hit with our dogs - they loved the garden and had so much fun. Luna came home with a strained tail from all the wagging, but it just shows how much fun they had! Well definitely be coming back.
