Date of stay: 4th May 2018
Can't wait to return, the place was perfect. Only minor issue was I was quite alarmed one morning/day with really loud noises in the sky that literally got me out of bed so I was quite on edge after that, I wonder if it is near an air field? I would love to know so I could relax next time without worrying it's something more sinister!
John, Doncaster
Date of stay: 26th March 2018
The cabin is lovely and very comfortable. The downsides were the patio which needed sweeping and cleaning and the dirty windows.
Leanne, Barnsley

Janet, Grimsby, Lincolnshire
Date of stay: 1st May 2017
Having previously stayed in a Golden Oak at Sherwood I booked the last cabin at Cropton which was a Copper Beech. The standard of the cabin was comparable however the setting was not so private. (This was the wheelchair friendly cabin which has to be close to the Retreat) I did notice that new shrubs and trees have been planted recently to improve privacy and this will really make a big difference. Having said that, all the cabins are cleverly placed on the site. Cleanliness was very good inside though I felt the deck could benefit from a little attention. Super airy lounge area with excellent L-shaped sofa. Very comfortable beds too. Finally, all of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Any little snags were quickly attended to. We had 2 lunches at The Retreat which were enjoyable sitting outside on the deck. Overall a lovely weekend.
Helen, Birmingham

I would stay there again it was very peaceful and relaxing.
Lisa, Hull
Date of stay: 21st April 2017
We had a great time away, the cabin was lovely, had everything, the only disappointment was that we was expecting a log burner and didnt have one. We reported two issues and someone was with us in minutes, and fixed both problems,
Amy, Wakefield
Date of stay: 21st April 2017

Date of stay: 3rd April 2017
Fantastic lodge everything was there that we needed, very comfortable , hot tub was a bonus , our first ever holiday with forest holidays was at Deerpark, Cornwall.
Steven, Leeds
Date of stay: 13th March 2017
Lovely location, very good accomodation, only thing that let it down was the lack of bath robes and the slippers normally supplied at every other lodge and cottage we have stayed in which are numerous .
Claire, Durham
Date of stay: 2nd January 2017
Lodge was lovely albeit a little overpriced, but you do expect to pay extra for the time of year, some signs of wear and tear in the family bathroom , hot tub was great and the surroundings were very relaxing. Access to our lodge was via a three-step stairway, the bottom step of which was badly damaged - we did report this on the first day (especially as the weather conditions meant it was icy) it wasn't fixed before we left, but we didn't expect maintenance people to be available during the New Year break; didn't spoil our stay. Lunch in the on-site cafe on New Year's Day was nice too!
Helen, Scarborough
Date of stay: 31st October 2016
The Golden Oak1 was a magnificent cabin, cosy and spacious at the same time, quiet and relaxing and just enough space between all the cabins
Diane, Wakefield
Date of stay: 12th August 2016

Date of stay: 12th August 2016
Fantastic lodge in a peaceful setting. Bird watching in the hot tub, perfect!!
Bally, Derbyshire
Date of stay: 5th August 2016

Wendy, Cleator, Cumbria
Date of stay: 10th June 2016
The lodge was much bigger than we expected. A minor point, but could do with washing up liquid and floor cleaner in the lodges. We didn't have any with us but weren't made aware we would need to bring any.
Stewart, Whitby
Date of stay: 13th May 2016
Overall a wonderful relaxing time in beautiful surroundings thank you
Katherine, Nantwich
Date of stay: 15th April 2016
Well kitted out very comfortable , loved it especially the hot tub .
Amanda, Skipton
Date of stay: 28th March 2016
we often do log cabin with hot tub hoildays, cropton was up there at the top, large lodge very light and welcoming. The hot tub was also very large and always warm. very welcoming to dogs.

if wanted to be picky bit of dust aroundon light shades ect and the decking a little green in places. Just also be beware car parking at some lodges is a distance from the lodges OH and no phone signal and if you want WiFi you need to buy the entertainment package.
Tracy, Hull
Date of stay: 8th February 2016
Lovely log cabin and very clean

Well designed, modern, well proportioned lodge.
Lynn, Hampshire
Date of stay: 14th August 2015
Had all the amenities you needed. Warm, clean and cosy.
Roy, Rotherham
Date of stay: 7th August 2015
Lovely break albeit a little on the expensive side. The price we paid, we would have expected wifi/TV to be part of the package but was charged an additional £10 per day for this service (£40-4 days). Beautiful location as well as pet-friendly. Grass around the lodges left to grow to ' encourage the local flora and fauna' according to the ranger in charge of our area. It would be far nicer if the grass was kept mowed so children could play around the lodges. Could not fault the actual lodges ( ours was no 36 - copper beech ). The only criticism if I had to voice one would be that the stairs and decked area could benefit from a jet wash as ours was quite dirty.
It doesn't detract from what was all in all a lovely 4 days at Cropton Lodges.
Karen, Lancashire
Date of stay: 31st July 2015
The fixtures and furnishings were great. It's a shame to have to mark it down but unfortunately I found the cutlery, cups etc to be a bit dirty. I re washed them myself. The rest of the lodge was spotless, it was just the kitchen pots etc, also the verandah could have done with a clean. There was a tissue and a plaster on the floor on ours on arrival. I would have expected these items to have been cleared. Still a great lodge though, just need to improve on little areas of cleaning.
Adele, Barnsley
Date of stay: 22nd June 2015
lodge 56, could have done with a good clean (dusty) but overall everything was perfect. fully equipped even had a scrabble board. hot tub checked daily. beds so comfy had no problem sleeping.

Date of stay: 16th March 2015
Well appointed. My wife wants to buy one. Microwave and cooker could have been a bit more stable. Hot tub was a dream and great in the cold evenings.
Kathryn, West Yorkshire
Date of stay: 23rd February 2015
A lot of black in the bathrooms & smelt very foisty. Also piece of wood hanging off in bedroom. Could do with black out blinds in bedrooms too. Other than that the lodge was baeutiful.
Lyndsay, York
Date of stay: 16th February 2015
Dishwasher was disgusting and we were unable to use it, the dishes and glass ware were greasy and dirty. the shower in the main bathroom didn't work and the second shower leaked, over all the place was dirty and I had to give it a good clean before we used anything!!
Victoria, Norwich
Date of stay: 13th February 2015
Lovely peaceful surroundings, lodge very well equipt, clean and comfortable. Hot tub was immaculate. Nice pub - The Cropton Brewery about 5 mins drive away. Beds comfortable, towels provided as we were in Golden Oak lodge. No hairdryers/irons. Underfloor heating was lovely.

Staff in the Forest Retreat miserable, everything was an effort for them, looked at us like dirt. Food in there appalling.
Heather, Wakefield
Date of stay: 9th February 2015
Had to ask for a bread knife ... few things listed in book were not actually in the cabin mainly kitchen items. Would also expect washing up liquid by the sink but none.
Tracy, Hull
Date of stay: 9th February 2015
I am really glad we chose the Golden Oak Lodge it was in a perfect location, very modern and spacious.

Date of stay: 29th August 2014
Situated in a excellent area, perfect for a restfull brake but still within distance of the local attractions. Only problem is getting the grand children out of the hot tub.
Dawn, Knaresborough
Date of stay: 25th August 2014
Was a nice place in a nice location but the lodge was advertised to include DVD player and Wii neither of which were in the lodge so we ended up taking DVDs and games with us which were if no use and spending a further £30 on the entertainment package which we could have saved had we known in advance. The holiday wasn't cheap to start with but I didn't mind paying more for a luxury lodge with all the extras. However we had to pay extra for a lot of what I would have expected to be included eg. Entertainment pack, map for on site walks, logs for log burner etc
Tracey, Norfolk
Date of stay: 25th August 2014
A very relaxing location with no mobile signal for about 4 miles and internet only if you pay £30 extra. Lovely hot tub which was spoiled a little by presence of flies.
Danielle, Nottingham
Date of stay: 25th August 2014
The lodges were lovely
Catherine, York
Date of stay: 18th August 2014
The lodge is superb though pricey. I thought having to pay 30 pounds extra for a 4 day entertainment pass so we could have internet access and watch films was quite a cheek considering what we had paid for the weekend.
Barrie, Rotherham
Date of stay: 18th August 2014
One of the best places I have stop, very quite and very very relaxing.
All facilities where all very good, shown round the when arrived and told how things workd, like switching on the Wi-Fi.
Neil, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Date of stay: 11th August 2014
excellent lodge, could do with a dvd player though.
Nicola, Trewern Welshpool Powys
Date of stay: 11th August 2014
Have been to loads of lodges the standard of clean was not great in our lodge
Sue, Thornaby
Date of stay: 8th August 2014
The Lodge was immaculate, the photos do not do the Lodges justice. we've stayed at some places but this is far the best and will be returning in the future.
D, Wakefield
Date of stay: 4th August 2014
It was very warm when we were there and it was quite difficult to cool the rooms down. However this didn't spoil our holiday as we spent a lot of time outside and in the hot tub.
Walks round the forest not as clearly marked as on other sites we have been on.
Mark, Arkesden, Essex
Date of stay: 4th August 2014
We had a fantastic time thank you
Diane, Easington, Hull.
Date of stay: 1st August 2014
Felt it was a bit expensive as only 4pm Mon. to 10am Friday. ie. only really 3 full days.
Accommodation was excellent, linen superb, kitchen very good.

Only a few things to improve on, needed new frying pan in kitchen and bottle opener.
Arrived to dirty grill.
Adele
Absolutely amazing, although they could be a little more activities for children, or a welcome weekend pack for the little ones.... and would be great for some night entertainment on site...
Kate
Lovely romantic setting and extra touches
LYNDSAY
Fabulous place, and lovely clean lodge. Only downside was the limited days activities were on, could only do certain things on a Wednesday or Sunday which made some activities out of each.
Chester
Great holiday! Would love to go again!
Leanne
Beautiful peaceful secluded location with lovely walks and fantastic wildlife.
Debbie
Had a ladies cousins away time fantastic unwind very recommend peace quiet and fun
Karen
We had a great weekend for my daughters 21st can't wait to go back
Steven
we have stayed in these lodges several times now, the one before this being the gold, that one was the best one, could'nt fault it , this one was ok. It was in a fantastic location and the emenities were ok, the wi-fi is really expensive and should be included in the price though.Another fault with it was the decking and shelving outside had not been cleaned in a long time and also the benches and table, i had to clean them myself before i could use them.... WITH A SCRUBBING BRUSH!!!!!

Fun Days Out near Cropton Lodges

about 7 Miles
Situated in Malton in North Yorkshire this has to be one of our favourite family days out.  It's a theme park and zoo all in one stretching over a massive 400 acres. With thrilling rides for the very daring like Cliff Hanger, Corkscrew and Kumali, there are also more gentle rides for the little ones such as Frog Hopper and Helitoys.  Family fun attractions include the 4D cinema, the lost river ride and the Little Monsters Den of Mischief. Check out their website for seasonal events which take place throughout the year and you can also gain more information about the zoo.  Flamingo Land is a resort as well as a theme park so you can also book accommodation there.
