Queenshill Lodges

Peacefully positioned well equipped and insulated these timber lodges offer you first class accommodation in a landscape of gently rolling countryside. Just 8 miles from sandy beaches this is an ideal touring base for Dumfries and Galloway, Wigtownshire and the rest of Scotland's South West Border country. Golf, riding, fishing and sailing are available locally. Edinburgh is 100 miles by car.

There are many superb days out in this region including a day trip to Ireland (fast Seacat or ferry) from Stranraer. Closer to home we recommend a trip to Mabie Farm Park just 19 miles from Queenshill Lodges. This is a family friendly farm with a wide range of farm animals and some fun attractions such as the choo choo express, trampolines and slides. The lodges are stylish and provide the perfect base for your stay. The Queenshill Lodge 4 offers plenty of space with one double bedroom and one with full size bunk beds. This lodge would be perfect for families. The Queenshill Lodge 3 is another nice choice with one double and one single room. This lodge sleeps 3. I can't praise Queenshill Lodges highly enough. We found it by accident a few years ago and fell in love with the lodges and peaceful surroundings. This is why we return again and again. We are a couple in our early 60s who enjoy quiet times.

What a peaceful, quiet place to relax and recharge my batteries, lodge was cosy and comfortable. Didn't mind that there was no WiFi or phone signal, great to get away from it all.
Lisa, West Lothian
Date of stay: 1st September 2017
My sister and I booked a week away at lodge 4 for our mother and father's joint birthday present. They couldn't have had a more relaxed time away and returned full of positive views of the lodge and the area in general. They took our family dog Cally with them and he also had a great time with all the land surrounding the lodge and great walks to go on.

Date of stay: 29th May 2017
Chalet very clean and all furniture and fittings were in perfect condition and appropriate. In all the times that we have stayed we have not met the owners or staff but everything has been left out and ready for us. We didn't need to speak to anyone and it was in keeping with the peaceful setting.
Angela, Morecambe

Date of stay: 8th July 2016
In regards to the staff we never met any, everything was neat when we arrived so they had done good work but no one greeted us upon arrival. The reason we're giving the holiday a 9/10 is just that it would've been much nicer had we seen someone on arrival (or shortly thereafter) incase there were any questions or queries we had. Other than that we had a great time: the lodge was great, the area had lots to do, it was great value and we would go again if we were doing the same type of holiday.
John, Wirral

This was our second stay at Queenshill Lodges withing 12 months and once again, we fully enjoyed it. Peaceful and quiet. Perhaps the living room seating requires a little updating, but it was clean, the bed was comfortable and it was very well equipped. We hope to return again next year.

Date of stay: 28th August 2015
The lodge had everything we required for a midweek break. The lodge was very clean, with fresh bedding and towels. The furniture and fittings were basic but practical. Flatscreen TV with built in DVD player in the lounge was welcome. Electricity was pay per unit, leaving a small amount on departure depending on how many units used but this worked out very cheap, cost price I would imagine. Small decking area with a couple of chairs to sit outside. We had our dog with us and the lodges were ideal, plenty of areas for walking. Very secluded and plenty of privacy from other lodges, but close enough to Castle Douglas for supplies etc.
Sandra, Belford
Date of stay: 22nd August 2015
Lovely clean lodge from very helpful staff
Peter, Burton In Lonsdale
Date of stay: 14th June 2015
Fantastic holiday in beautiful surroundings. Very peaceful. Clean, well equipped lodges. Gave an 8 for the furniture and fittings just because the beds were a little too firm for our liking. But we will definitely return and recommend Queenshill to our friends. It's a hidden gem.
Sharon, Loughborough

We have always found Queenshill Lodges to be well-equipped, warm, clean and comfortable, all to a very high standard. We have been at various times of the year and everything is always exactly as we expect. This is why we keep coming back.
Gordon, Dundee
Date of stay: 15th September 2014
Small cozy comfortable home. No wifi or phone signal in the area so very peacefull. TV was a large black mark on the wall, its been awhile since I seen small TV combo like it. You pay for electricity but at a good rate not ripping you off. Site only had lodges, nothing to entertain you or kids, no food.
Waclaw, Cambridge
Date of stay: 28th July 2014
Our lodge was clean and tidy on arrival, with fresh marvellous flowers on the table. No tobacco or other smells. No obvious dirt after previous tenants. Lots of space for two, a separate secondary bedroom good for one person. Comfortable beds, clean bedding an towels. Bathroom clean and in good shape. Kitchen sufficiently equipped for substantial cooking.
Laura, Manchester
Date of stay: 12th July 2014
The lodge was in the most gorgeous setting.Very clean and spacious. The lounge suite wasn't the most comfortable.

Enjoyed my break away just what I needed.. house was clean ..lovely and quite .. my dog enjoyed the land to run about she tried to meet the horse lol .. but was called away location nothing really near would need to drive
i enjoyed my holiday very much the lodge was very clean and comfortable i would recommend it very highly
Lovely peaceful place.in lovely surroundings. Only one complaint the bed was uncomfatable the mattress was very hard and made our backs hurt.
We love Queenshill Lodges. We have stayed many times and have a couple of future visits already booked. We are always welcomed with a spotless, comfortable lodge and enjoy a lovely, peaceful break.
Lovely location, shame that electricity isnt added to the booking price.
Second year we’ve been here, and once again excellent, will be back next year all going well.
Great place to stay quiet and peaceful.
Excellent holiday for a quiet relaxing break.
lodge was just perfect. clean, warm, comfortable with everything needed. the wildlife and walking in the area are fantastic.
Some of the best appointed self catering accommodation that I have stayed in. Immaculate and very good kitchen and equipment. Great for walks and wild life. Nearest shops an restaurants 10 mins away at Castke Douglas. Ralph (the dog) loved it too.
Lovely clean lodge in a tranquil location, some really nice walks locally - a little off the main road, so I imagine in snow it may be hard to access.
Excellent place to get away from it all. Lovely location with plenty of walks to choose from. The cabin was clean and comfortable. Would go back again.
We have been to queenshill lodges for the past 5 years, we love the peace and quiet, the lodges have everything you need, perfect for relaxing.

We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.

An outdoor activity center suitable for families. Featuring one of Europe's longest zip wires, jeep driving, grass sledging, archery, outdoor scooters. A mix of fun and adreneline rides and a lot more.

Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.

We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
