Bodiam Castle is a 14th-century moated castle near Robertsbridge in East Sussex. Sir Edward Dalyngrigge built it in 1385 with the permission of Richard II, ostensibly to defend the area against French invasion during the Hundred Years' War. It has no keep. Instead, the chambers were built around the outer walls and inner courts, with towers at the corners and the entrance, topped by battlements.
Tip: You don't need to book in advance, but the car park uses the JustPark app, so download it and set up an account before you arrive. The towers are reached by steep spiral staircases.

Lamb House is a red-brick Georgian house in the old town of Rye, built in 1722 and now run by the National Trust as a writer's house museum. Henry James lived here from 1897 to 1914, and E. F. Benson and Rumer Godden also made it their home. Some of James's personal possessions are on display, and you can step inside a favourite writing room.
Tip: There's no onsite parking. Rye station is a short walk, uphill, from the house on West Street.

Walk the actual field of the 1066 Battle of Hastings and explore the abbey ruins William the Conqueror founded.
Battle Abbey, run by English Heritage as 1066 Battle of Hastings, Abbey and Battlefield, is the site where William the Conqueror's Normans met King Harold's English army. The abbey was founded by William soon after the conquest, said to be on the spot where Harold died.
Tip: Head to the visitor centre first to get the story of the battle, then take the audio tour round the battlefield.

A Henry VIII artillery fort reached on a one-mile countryside walk from Rye.
Camber Castle is an unusually unaltered artillery fort, built by Henry VIII to guard the port of Rye. It sits between Rye and Winchelsea, and its concentric design has a central keep surrounded by round bastions. The coastline has since receded, leaving the fort well inland. J. M. W. Turner once painted it, and it is a Grade I listed building.
Tip: The nearest car park is on Winchelsea Road in Rye, about a mile from the castle, so wear walking shoes.

The caravan was nice, not the cleanest, shower leaked, blind in toilet didnt work, telly didnt work, the bed in living room was like sleeping on the floor
The caravan is very basic.
Staff worked very hard, although there was never enough staff in the bar area.On one occasion the poor staff member was trying to make pizzas and serve behind the bar!Nice site, quite compact.Swimming pool a favourite for the children, also our pockets as it was free.Robin in the shop was extremely helpful.

Immaculate caravan. Fittings basic but value for what we paid. Very little storage for food items. Bathroom lovely apart from annoying squeaking of flooring
Caravan clean except for drain which was sorted by staff swiftly. Sofas not the most comfortable but beds good .
The beds were wobbly and the shower head was split but everything else was fine.
Great little place, had everything we needed for our stay.
The owners really seem to have thought of everything. We had such a relaxing stay and Id definitely suggest it to friends!

We just got back from a really relaxing four-night stay at this cottage. The hosts were super friendly but not at all intrusive-always there if you needed anything. The big fenced garden was perfect for our dog to run around freely. The place had everything we could think of, including a great BBQ one evening. The hot tub was definitely a highlight! Were already planning to come back and have told our friends all about it. Thanks for a lovely stay!

We just got back from a week at Goddards Mead and honestly, it was lovely. The cottage had everything we needed and felt really cosy. The hosts were so friendly and even though its on a working farm, its surprisingly peaceful. Wed definitely go back!

We had a lovely stay! Sharon and Robert really made us feel at home, which was much appreciated. The place was spotlessly clean, comfy and perfect for Archie with good security. The location was just right, with so many scenic walks nearby and charming villages like Thaxted to explore. We definitely left feeling refreshed and relaxed - it was just what we needed. Would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway!

Huge shoutout to Gabrille for the fantastic job on cleaning our place before we got there. The house was spotless and we felt really comfortable staying in it. The only thing that bugged us was the tiny bedrooms layout - the beds are narrow and the wardrobes position is a bit risky, I actually bumped my head on it! Luckily, its not the owners fault, just poor design from the manufacturer. Still, overall, really happy with everything!
We had a lovely stay at this charming cottage. The owners are genuinely friendly and went out of their way to help us, which made all the difference. The place itself is spotlessly clean, warm and really cosy - perfect for relaxing after exploring the surrounding fields and nearby Thaxted. Parking right next to the property was a real bonus and the shower is surprisingly powerful! Definitely a great spot for a peaceful getaway.

We found the bar staff very focussed on their tasks but not particularly chatty. The reception people were helpful and welcoming. The park had the necessary facilities and provided good value for the money we paid for our break. The entertainment was Bingo and very little else however we did not go in peak season.

Good base for local area. Not Good for quiet break clubhouse too loud can't hear yourself think other than that we had a good break. Beach at St Mary's & dymchurch excellent & fish and chips fantastic.
