Really enjoyed my stay here. The wonderful views of Berrynarbour out the windows of our lodge. Excellent people running the place they were really friendly and helpful. The best part is that pets can stay. I could take my cat with me which was great. What more could you ask for!

Date of stay: 23rd June 2017
Although this lodge was a bit dated compared with the lodges we have stayed at before ( but those lodges were at least 3 x the price) the lodge was very very clean and sizeable enough for us and our two dogs.and had everything we needed ( they loved this holiday, a great walk to the coast through shaded woods, perfect for dogs who get too hot quickly And the views from the lodge and the surrounding area beat every site we have ever stayed at, and we have stayed at a lot of different location but they have not had these views..'
Close to broughon sands perfect for dogs....and we will definitely book again.

Loved location, only thing was that this lodge lacked storage space could do with a few shelves particularly in the bathroom
Claire, Bristol
Date of stay: 29th May 2017
These lodges are beautiful and we had a wonderful stay.

I visited with my boyfriend on Spring Bank Holiday weekend, we arrived late afternoon and followed signs to the Reception lodge to pick up our keys. We were delighted to see shelves full of DVDs and games we could borrow for free, so when you're in the lodge everyone is entertained.

The lodge is walking distance from two lovely pubs - Ye Olde Globe Inn and The Saw Mills Freehouse, it's also a quick ride in the car to a large Tesco to pick up food and drink.

Over the days we travelled to Ilfracombe Harbour, Woolacombe, Combe Martin and Lynton, all close drives. The lodges are perfectly placed in gorgeous countryside, with the best views that I have ever woken up to.

We had a sofa bed in the lounge and a little comfy chair. There was also a dining table with 4 seats, plus a little coffee table. The lounge has a TV with all the free channels and an inbuilt DVD player. The kitchen area had a small fridge with a freezer cupboard at the top, and an oven with four hobs on top. We were supplied with cups, glasses, plates, bowels, cutlery and washing up liquid. (Picking up a pack of sponges from Tesco helps with the cleaning.)

Our bedroom had a comfortable double bed, a side table, a small open wardrobe with drawers and hangers.

The wash room had a lovely shower, toilet and sink. There is hand wash soap and toilet roll but don't forget to bring your own towels and shampoo etc.

Everything was clean when we arrived and we cleaned it before we left it, it had a lovely home from home feel.

Outside of the lodge we had a small table and two chairs, it was lovely to sit out in the morning with our coffees and look at the stunning view.

We didn't see much of the hosts, as we arrived late in the afternoon and then spent a lot of time out and about or tucked away in our lodge. We did see one gentleman when we were returning our keys on our last day and he was very friendly and asked if we had a good stay, which we did!

I would HIGHLY recommend these lodges, they are in a beautiful location and very well looked after. Extra touches like the free loaning of DVD's and games gave it a really special feel.

I will definitely go back and next time probably for a week, I'd also like to go with my family as I know my parents, brothers and their partners would love it there too.

Only side note is the location has a lot of steep hills. This is absolutely fine as long as you're moderately fit but anyone who struggles with hills would probably need to drive to the local pubs. For us we felt like we earned our pint and we enjoyed the exercise! We are not very fit so if we managed it most average people could.

Thank you to the hosts and team behind Grattons Cedar Lodges. We had a wonderful break and will definitely be back!

Lovely clean little cottage which was spot on for our week. Very pleasant and helpful owner, great view across the valley. It was a perfect base to get to various places around North Devon and Ilfracombe was on the doorstep.

Date of stay: 19th May 2017
Lovely site, staff so helpful and friendly. Cannot stress how much of a beautiful place this is,the shower blocks and toilet facilities were the best I've seen on a site (even though I stayed in a caravan,I had a nosey as I love to camp too) Would and already have highly recommended a stay at Whitehills Country Park. Would def go and stay again.
Emily, Brackley
Date of stay: 5th May 2017
Fantastic little lodge, perfect for just the two of us and the dogs. Simple but that's all you need. Great location.
Only improvement would be to have an enclosed front or rear area to let dogs out without having to walk them on lead however while we were there, there was not many others and the ones who were there all had dogs aswell so friendly environment and didn't mind my dogs off lead around the lodge.
Date of stay: 30th April 2017
We only stayed two nights but we'd definitely stay again and for longer. The lodge was clean, cosy and comfortable with beautiful views. The children and the dog were very happy too.

Date of stay: 22nd July 2016
Lovely lodge, with a veranda which had garden furniture, so you could sit and look at the breathtaking view and relax.
Four adults and a dog, and didn't find it cramped, in fact was very cosy and well equipped.
The settee in the lounge area was a pull out bed, which came in handy.
The bedrooms didn't have wardrobes but that didn't seem to matter, as chest of pine drawers were enough.
The beds were very comfortable and if you needed extra bedding(which we didn't), we were told just to ask.
Very clean and had everything you wanted and needed for a lovely relaxing holiday away from it all.
Will definitely be going back..loved it.
Ashley, Somerset
Date of stay: 18th July 2016
This lodge was one of the oldest of the lodges. But you can tell that the hosts are regularly maintaining and updating their facilities. The lodge had everything we could of needed - if it didn't we didn't notice. Lovely little place to escape as a family with dogs too.

Fab, quiet, away from it all holiday. Chalet could do with smartening up, however we felt that this 'added too' the laid back easy going ambience of the resort. We will be going back again.

Date of stay: 28th March 2016
I don't know what some people expect but for the price I paid, the lodge was lovely and cosy, as well as clean. The views were amazing of the hills and surrounding areas and the owners were very helpful and friendly. There isn't much to do on the site but that didn't bother us as we wanted a relaxing weekend away. Exmoor Zoo isn't too far away and the nearest village is about a 10 minute drive away. The pound coins in the electricity meter last a long time assuming you are not leaving everything on. All of the appliances worked how they should - the only thing I will say is that I wish there were a few more cupboards in the kitchen area, but that wasn't enough to ruin my holiday! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Date of stay: 11th September 2015
all we could find missing was a bread knife to eat the lovely local loaves...the site was beautifully cared for, with lovely flowers and well maintained lodges...the man doing all the reception work etc, perhaps the owner was lovely and his little daughter..there were dvds to borrow, puzzles and games all free to use and leaflets and books of the area to look at too....really smashing,...a little un nerving if youre not into heights but the views were wonderful.

Date of stay: 31st July 2015
The Exmoor Lodge was cosy and had all the essential equipment you would need for a self-catering stay. The location is abit steep, but even at 7mths pregnant, it was fine. We had access to BBQ and other equipment if we wanted it. Water was hot on demand and I liked the stable door at the front to allow the breeze to come through. The bedroom was suitable for two people and the bed was very comfy.
Date of stay: 25th July 2015
Great place to stay nice and peaceful great views
Rob, Rotherham
Date of stay: 25th July 2015
Went in July for a 7 night stay at the Buttercup lodger. The area is nice and is a good walk up from the pub. Some people say the hill is steep, which it is, but nothing too much and provided a enjoyable walk from the local pub. One to note though is both the local pubs lacked real ales which was a real disappointment!

The drive to the park is on some good country roads and provide for a good drive, but only if you are a confident driver, but if you aren't you shouldn't be looking at this area full stop for a holiday!

The lodge was clean and good value for money, I have seen reviews on here complaining about the standard of the places, but you must remember that the lodges are reasonably priced and if you want all posh stuff then go somewhere and pay 5 times more.

The bed was very comfortable and spacious and is probably the best bed we have stayed in. The area had all the amenities you could want including a selection of DVDs in reception.

The disappointing thing was that we never got to meet the owners, I like to meet the people in charge and missed the personal touch. The lodge was also advertised as complimentary tea, coffee & milk but there was no milk only the drinks. No issue for the wife but I like a nice cupper and also the fridge had no bar across which made keeping milk difficult.

Don't be put off with the cost of the electricity as a first it sounds expensive but it really isn't. We have the oil heater on a few times to dry towels etc and the other heaters on a cold night but it only cost us a few quid for the whole week, bargain!

Wifi can be a bit patchy but you figure out where is best to get a signal.

Bad Bits

The entrance to the park is very steep which caused issues with getting my car in and out of the site. Although there is nothing the owners could do about this, I feel that a little more information on this would have been good before we went as we would have taken my wifes new Meriva and had no issues with that. Instead it provided entertainment the first night there as trying to get my Astra out was a challenge and after taking a gamble on going forward was unfortunate to crack the bumper and the car is only 6 months old. Eventually figured out that needed to reverse out of the entrance to avoid damage although this was hampered when people parked in the bin area due to the limited parking. Beaware that if you have a lowish car you could have problems getting in and out. Yes the drive is tight with a wide car, but as long as your careful you won't have a problem.

In summary

This is the first time we have been to Grattons but would come back to stay again as the location is perfect for a holiday. We would also recommend it for people to stay

We had a wonderful 5 days stay with the dog. We arrived late at night and were given a torch to help us. The lodges have great views and are situated in a lovely village. Previous reviews mentioned the steep drive but you get used to negotiating it after the first attempt. The lodges are ideally situated to visit many interesting places and beaches. Buttercup lodge was an ideal size for the 2 of us and the dog. It is well equipped and was spotlessly clean when we arrived. The information folder in the lodge was really useful. We hope to return here sometime in the future.

Date of stay: 11th July 2015
The lodge was very comfortable and clean and tidy. The staff were lovely and the free range eggs were delicious for breakfast. Very quiet didn't here any noise from the other lodges even the ones that had brought their dogs. It was a very active holiday for us with lots of coastal walks, biked part of the tarka trail from Barnstable to Bideford and back. Hills were very steep but we really enjoyed the area and sights of North devon.

Date of stay: 22nd May 2015
We and our 2 dogs enjoyed our stay here. It's a great environment. The only improvement suggestions I have ( and these are just personal preferences): a cordoned off area to the rear of the lodge so the dogs could be lead free, slightly larger sofa inside and a small comfy chair. Like I say, these are personal preferences.

Pixie Lodge was a lovely little lodge with parking straight outside.
The owner was very friendly and accommodating.
Electric is on a meter but lasts a good long while. Excellent washing facilities but remember to take your own washing powder. Fab info pack in the lodge.
Dog friendly beaches.
Great value holiday, we would definitely stay again. Recommended.

We stayed in croyde lodge it was lovely and clean and comfortable mattress , could of done with an extra dining room chair as they was 5 of us but we managed :) also would of prefer a gate across the decking area outside the lodge due to have a 2 year old ! Apart from that it was perfect and would love to stay again :)

We had a fabulous weekend in Woodpecker Lodge. The lodge was clean and comfortable with everything you could need. However, we have clicked on number 9 for 'Furniture & Fittings' because the wardrobe space is quite limited. Fine for a couple but would not be sufficient for two couples or a family of four. The location is beautiful. The lodges are nestled amongst trees and wild flowers and the view from our windows was magnificent. Highly recommended.

The Site
We wanted an escape from it all break and not a "run of the mill" holiday park style break, and the Gratton Cedar Lodges did not dissapoint, with only 10 lodges, it felt intimate and was the perfect choice for us.

set in a Tranquil, scenic location, just outside the little village of Berrynabor, 10-15 min drive from Ilfracombe & 10 mins from Coombe Martin. There is a Tesco Superstore only a short 10min drive away. Note:- The road from the village & entrance leading upto the lodges is quite steep but our Ford Focus made it easily.

On arrival we met Dave, a very friendly & helpful guy. He told us all about the lodge, the area and amenities. There is ample parking by your lodge, reception is always open and has free use of dvd's, Board Games, maps & leaflets. You can buy eggs & essentials from reception and leave payment in the honesty box - a nice touch by the owners. Torches are also free & available, very useful for walking at night as it very dark but you get amazing views of the night sky/Stars. The site lighting gets turned off at midnight, but each lodge has its own outside lights controlled by a switch inside.

We travelled with our dog, and She loved it! Plenty of walks for dog-owners with breath-taking views. Just behind the lodges (past the play area) is a nice easy walk through the woods.

Primrose Lodge
Had everything that we needed, a good sized kitchen with oven, microwave and fridge/freezer. A good sized lounge area with a flat screen tv/dvd. There were 2 portable heaters and one was left on for us prior to our arrival - a nice thought.

pay as you go meter - we was spending £2-3 per day which we found reasonable.

We booked hoping for a relaxing get away from it all lodge break - and that's exactly what we got. A fantastic site with stunning scenery from all lodges.

We will definately be back!

We all very much like Croyde Lodge, especially the living space with the lovely view. Only issues- twin room not having much space between the beds, not enough kitchen cupboard space- neither of these actually affected how much we enjoyed our stay.

The view from the bluebell lodge was beautiful. If you want a complete break from everyone, this is the place to come, however the roads leading into the lodges are very narrow and hilly, so not suitable for large vechicles or if you don't enjoy walking, you will soon get puffed out! Having said that, it's a lovely place to be and makes a great base to travel from. We would definetly go again.
Really lovely, the owners were extremely friendly and our lodge was in great condition l, can’t recommend enough if you are after a quite and peaceful holiday away!
Great holiday, upgraded to better cabin than booked. everything clean and fresh in accommodation. Only grumble is that the cabin is all electric including the heating, cooking and hot water which all worked well but the cost of electric is very high and increased the cost of the holiday as a weeks electric cost as much as I use in a month at home. I would come back as enjoyed the time away, left to own devices. Great views great location and not far from ilfracombe and Combe Martin.
Cosy quite little lodge. More than expected. Friendly and polite. More than happy with the service. Very accomadating
Such a lovely quite place with wonderful views
Lovely lodge with a good view ans peaceful setting
We had a lovely weekend at Grattons. Although we didn’t meet anyone we were very pleased with the communication and the little touches such as leaving the heating and lights on as they knew we would be arriving late. Thank you for a lovely break :)
