With furniture that folds into the walls in the square, a wood burning stove in the cylinder and a roof that opens up to view the night skies, Sky Den offers a unique glamping experience for up to 4 people.Architect and TV presenter George Clarke launched this extraordinary treehouse project in December 2013 and it has been amazingly popular ever since. Created with designer William Hardie, SkyDen features a spectacular opening roof revealing views of Europe’s largest working forest and the UK’s darkest skies. Speaking about Sky Den George Clarke says, “We’ve never designed anything like it before. It’s part treehouse, part art installation and can offer a unique experience on a unique site.”Your Sky Den Experience.The Square. This is your main living area on ground level opening onto a balcony. It is accessible for our disabled guests. This compact space then transforms into a dining area or a 2 single bedroom layout when cleverly designed furniture is folded down from the walls. This space also houses the small well-equipped kitchen with oven, grill, 2 hotplates, fridge, microwave, kettle, and toaster.The Circle. This is your outdoor seating and dining area situated above a free-flowing stream and houses a small wood-burning stove. The Circle is accessible via a gently sloped walkway from the roadside.The Triangle. This is your upper sleeping area accessed via external stairs. The triangle is not accessible by anyone who cannot climb the external stairs from the walkway. A small step ladder leads you to the sleeping platform. There is under-bed storage and of course, the roof opens to view the magnificent dark skies.The Bathroom. This is your level entry wet room incorporating a shower, toilet and hand basin and is located just outside the square.Sheets, blankets, duvets and towels are provided however we recommend bringing your own sleeping bags during the colder months or if you plan on sleeping outside in The Circle. There is electric lighting throughout Sky Den, though as you will be situated in an International Dark Skies Park, external lighting is limited. We recommend you bring a torch with you, especially if you plan to arrive after dark.

Hermitage Castle is a semi-ruined stronghold in the remote valley of the Hermitage Water, in Scotland's wild border country. It was targeted for 400 years because of its role in controlling the Scottish Middle March, and it has a name as one of the most sinister and atmospheric castles in Scotland.
Tip: In the summer season (1 April to 31 October) it is covered by the Historic Environment Scotland Explorer Pass, but not in winter, so check before you go.

A Roman fort south of Hadrian's Wall, with live excavations and Britain's famous Writing Tablets.
Vindolanda was a Roman auxiliary fort just south of Hadrian's Wall, near the village of Bardon Mill in Northumberland. It was occupied from roughly 85 AD to 370 AD and is one of Europe's most important Roman archaeological sites, with live excavations taking place every year.
Tip: Combine it with the Roman Army Museum on one Saver Ticket, and check the tour timetable for the guided fort tours.

Housesteads Roman Fort is an auxiliary fort on Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland. It sits at the end of a one-mile crag of the Whin Sill, which the Wall runs over, overlooking sparsely populated hills. It has been called the "grandest station" on the Wall and is one of the best-preserved and most extensively displayed forts.

Little-altered medieval fortified manor house with battlements and a walled orchard, close to the Hadrian's Wall Trail.
Aydon Castle is a fortified medieval manor house near Corbridge in Northumberland, and is thought to be one of the least-altered examples in England. Begun in the late 13th century, it was progressively turned into a miniature castle as Anglo-Scottish border warfare grew fiercer, and was attacked at least three times by Scots raiders.
Tip: English Heritage lists it as closed for winter, so check it has reopened before you travel.

A Norman castle ruin above the River Tyne, with a barbican, gatehouse and towering keep.
Prudhoe Castle is a ruined medieval castle on the south bank of the River Tyne in Northumberland, now looked after by English Heritage. It sits on a ridge above the river and guarded an important crossing. You approach past a mill pond, through the 14th-century barbican and over the inner ditch to the formidable gatehouse.
Tip: Check the English Heritage website before you go, as access to the inner ward and chapel is limited to certain days. There is free parking a short walk from the entrance, along a slope with cobbles and loose gravel.

Lodge was beautiful, had all the home comforts in the kitchen. The lodge is lovely and modern, the setting was fabulous and the lodge was lovely and quiet. We used the jacuzzi every day and it was just so relaxing to sit in and look at the scenery and it was lovely and warm. Would recommend taking footwear when going into the jacuzzi just so you don't slip on the decking..

Honestly, we had a lovely stay here! We were a bit wary after reading some negative reviews, but it really exceeded our expectations. The place was spotless when we arrived and check-in was super straightforward with contactless options, which we appreciated. The location is so peaceful, perfect for unwinding and theres plenty to do nearby if youre feeling more active. The staff at reception were genuinely friendly and always willing to help out if needed - really went above and beyond. The kitchen had all the essentials, so cooking was a breeze. And the hot tub? Absolutely fantastic, with stunning forest views that made relaxing even better. We also enjoyed the steam shower - such a treat! We went as a couple, but honestly, its very family-friendly too. Wed definitely come back!

This treehouse really is a unique find! Its super clean and minimal, but still has all the fun of glamping. The kitchen is well stocked and the pull-down bed plus stools are so comfy and easy to store away. We loved it!

The scenery was truly lovely and the hot tub was perfect after a long day. However, arriving at 5pm in winter felt a bit late since it gets dark so early and the stony path from the parking isnt great if youre in a wheelchair. Still, we enjoyed it!

We just got back from a wonderful weekend at The Bradbury Lodge, Calvert Trust. Honestly, the view never gets old - its stunning! The weather was perfect, which made everything even better. We loved relaxing in the hot tub and appreciated how peaceful and private it was, despite being close to the observatory and Kielder Waterside. Totally recommend it!
We really enjoyed our stay overall. The lodge itself was fantastic-well equipped and very comfortable. The only thing that could be better is the park; its pretty small and not much for little ones to do. Also, it wouldve been safer if there was a gate on the decking to keep dogs and kids away from the road outside. Still, a lovely break!
The place was spotless, which we really appreciated. However, considering how spacious it is, there should be more USB sockets. We only had one plug charger and the rest were USBs. Bit of a pain not having enough spots to plug everything in, especially since we brought multiple devices. Overall, a lovely stay but needs better socket availability!

We stayed at this lodge recently and honestly, its even more stunning in person. The entrance gives a real wow moment, much better than the pictures suggest. We did have a couple of minor issues, like resetting the hot tub and turning off the underfloor heating, but everything was sorted smoothly via email instructions. The lodge is well-equipped and though most of the site was closed due to the time of year, we still loved it!

We stayed at this lodge recently and honestly, the views are stunning! The place was spotless and the towels and robes were a nice touch. The hot tub and jet bath made it even better. Only downside was the BBQ - its a bit past its prime, really.
We really enjoyed our stay at the lodge! It was super cosy and spotlessly clean, with everything we needed for self-catering. The peaceful surroundings made it perfect for relaxing and the facilities were top-notch. We didnt try the restaurant, so cant say much about that. Overall, a lovely, quiet getaway wed recommend!
We missed the bar, but the Leaplish restaurant was absolutely fantastic when we finally got to eat there.
