Lodges in East of England Guide

Essex is a surprisingly varied county that boasts plenty of wonderful outdoors activities. It balances new with old in the shape of some mesmerizing historical attractions and contemporary facilities including excellent shopping and nightlife in its many towns and cities.

The coastal areas and beautiful countryside make the county an unsuspecting destination for those looking to explore and enjoy the great outdoors in style, thanks to the plethora of sprawling beaches, coastline, and miles of rural beauty.

It offers something for all ages, and is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a relaxing break with some excellent choices of accommodation for your lodge holiday.

Time for a beach day

Boasting one of the longest coastlines of any English county, Essex has plenty of beautiful beaches and seaside resorts that make for a wonderful day out. Head to Southend-on-Sea and Clacton-on-Sea for award-winning beaches, fairground rides, and walks along the world’s longest pier.

They’re both idyllic spots for building sandcastles with the kids or simply relaxing in the sun with an ice cream. For those looking to explore beyond the beaches, there are plenty of mudflats, creeks with intriguing smuggling histories, clifftop walks, and secret islands that are all within easy reach of the county where wildlife is abound.

A great activity is taking a boat trip at Walton-on-the-Naze to spot seals basking in the sun – it’s fun for all the family. The Essex isles are a great hidden gem, boasting some beautiful environments. With more islands than any other county in the country, they’re idyllic spots for rambling or escaping reality for a few hours whilst enjoying the great outdoors.

Culture vulture

Essex has arguably one of the most interesting histories in the country, as the front line of defence against European invasion for centuries in the past, thanks to its unique position. Whilst standing the test of time, the county has an interesting influence as a result, with Vikings, Normans, Romans, and Saxons all stepping on the Essex soil.

Visitors can spend days exploring the intriguing ancient towns, temple remains, and castles – particularly in the country’s oldest city of Colchester with some of the best kept remains in the world. It’s well worth exploring the county to spot the ancient houses and churches that preserve the county’s incredible history.

Great days out

There’s certainly no shortage of things to do in the county, with plenty of fun activities for all ages. For the little ones, there’s a huge variety of castles, zoos, farm parks, and interesting museums that are great days out for the whole family. Beautiful Audley End House is certainly worth a visit as one of the country’s most beautiful stately homes, with its resident horses and authentic Victorian playrooms that the children will love.

The Royal Gunpowder Mills is a wonderful activity, explaining the history behind the factory that began producing explosives in the seventeenth century, with plenty of fun interactive opportunities along the way. Famous Colchester Zoo offers memories you won’t forget, including feeding elephants and giraffes, and wonderful Adventure Island in Southend-on-Sea is an amazing day out with rides and amusements for all ages.

Perfect lodge breaks in Essex

There’s an extremely varied choice of lodge accommodation when it comes to Essex. Warren Lodges in Maldon is an idyllic lodge park set in rural surroundings in the beautiful Essex countryside on a golf and country club. Offering a sophisticated lodge break, it’s the perfect base for gentle walks and exploring the local villages, all in the privacy and seclusion of your own luxury lodge. For guests with families with little ones, Roydon Marina Village has a beautiful setting with shows and attractions in the pretty city of Roydon. With its own 32 acre marina, it’s the perfect spot for walking and cycling through the local area.

Holiday Lodges in Essex are a good choice for a UK self catering holiday. Lodge accommodation offers more space than caravans and mobile homes and some lodges even have their own outdoor hot tubs which are great for relaxing after a busy day.

Herbage Country Lodges in Essex are highly recommended as the lodges have a stunning setting in the country and the Russet and Lord Lambourne Lodges come with outdoor hot tubs. Herbage Country Lodges are also great for wildlife enthusiasts as you can see plenty of wildlife on site and even see native deer from the park. Roydon Mill Estate are recommended for family lodge holidays in Lincolnshire and also for romantic breaks for two.
