The World of James Herriot fills the original 1940s home and veterinary surgery of Alf Wight at 23 Kirkgate in Thirsk, known in the books as Skeldale House. You walk through the restored family rooms, the cramped consulting room and the dispensary packed with old remedies, then out to the garden with its memorial statue.
Tip: There's no cafe on site, so plan lunch in Thirsk marketplace, a two-minute walk away.

Castle Howard is a Baroque country house in North Yorkshire, designed by Sir John Vanbrugh and home to the Howard family for over 300 years. Inside, you can explore grand galleries, bedrooms and a world-class art and sculpture collection. The house is also well known as a filming location, including for Brideshead Revisited and Bridgerton.

A ruined Cistercian abbey in the North York Moors whose early Gothic design inspired York Minster's rose window.
Byland Abbey was once one of the greatest monasteries in England. Founded in the 12th century, it was described in the late 14th century as "one of the three shining lights of the north" and was famed for its sheep rearing and wool exports.
Tip: The car park is small and the road is busy with quick-moving cars, so take care. Check the English Heritage website for museum and tour times.

York Minster is an Anglican cathedral in the city of York and the seat of the Archbishop of York. Most of the building dates from between 1220 and 1472. It keeps most of its medieval stained glass, including the huge east window, the largest expanse of medieval glass in the world, and the Five Sisters window in the north transept.
Tip: Pre-book your tickets, and note that a Minster ticket is valid for 12 months. The Central Tower needs a combined ticket and a minimum age of 8.

A huge hill figure on the edge of the North York Moors, reached by a short footpath from the car park.
The Kilburn White Horse is a hill figure cut into the southern flank of Sutton Bank, in the North York Moors National Park. It is 318 feet long and 220 feet high, and it faces south-south-west. It is now made of off-white limestone chips laid over the exposed rock.
Tip: For the best view of the horse itself, go to the Bagby road, where there are benches. The car park is on a steep minor road between Kilburn village and the Sutton Bank National Park Centre.

The National Railway Museum in York tells the story of rail transport in Britain and its impact on society. Great holiday very relaxing central location handy for all the major attractions
The van was comfortable and well equipped. Beds were made up when we arrived and as we were staying for two weeks, we were given clean bedding after the first week.
Perfect caravan that includes everything you will need for your stay. The outdoor picnic bench was a nice addition to each caravan.
Immaculately cleaned.Had everything you needed - crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment.WiFi included that had good speed.Beds very comfortable with lovely bedding.

The caravan was very clean and well maintained and comfortable. We enjoyed the picnic table situated outside the caravan too.. There were tea and coffee samples provided, a tea towel etc, nice touch for a caravan. Could have done with a lamp in the living room rather than having to use ceiling lights in the evening (personal preference). However, we had a very enjoyable stay, and I would definitely recommend.
We stayed in a standard caravan which dad everything we needed only thing that would have been better for us ( probably in de lux) more room around bed getting in and out a bit tight and would have been nice to have a more comfortable sofa other than that it was very good

Very comfortable and modern caravan. Beds very comfortable and pillows , which makes a nice change. 42" smart tv in lounge area and free WiFi! Caravans not all squashed together on site, plenty of space between them.
The caravan had everything in it that you need, nice and clean, the bedside lamp were a nice touch

A very good standard caravan complete with private parking space outside and a picnic table to enjoy outdoor meals.Only gripe at all for us was with the 3 bedrooms, the size of the space around the bed in the master bedroom was compromised so a little difficult to access and exit the bed with knee problems. Very comfortable mattress and good quality bedding.

Honestly, this lodge was a real find. The deck was perfect for chilling out and having a washing machine was a bonus. Super warm, well insulated and the Wi-Fi worked great. Were definitely coming back!
We stayed in the superior caravan for 4 nights during half term week with our 2 children. We had a lovely time. The caravan was so clean and the grounds are extremely well kept. This is a lovely caravan site and we would definitely recommend it.

Really pleased with the caravan, it looked exactly as we imagined it would be.
Clean, tidy, modern. Lounge area very nice. Kitchen modern nice. Microwave in awkward position, in corner, above corner unit. Main bathroom nice, modern, clean. Nice shower unit. Small bedroom not used, just used to store bags and boxes. Main bedroom, comfy double bed, big bed. Not much room window side of bed. Need to peg curtains closed, gaps. Lots of storage, cupboard, drawers, over bed storage. Little bathroom, just toilet and hand basin. Would recommend Lounge windows to be top open only. Nice little deck area, secure for the dog. Good out side light.
Overall, we found the place quite nice. Its clean, modern and tidy, with a really lovely lounge area that feels welcoming. The kitchen is also up-to-date, though the microwaves position in the corner above a unit is a bit awkward. The main bathroom is clean and modern, with a nice shower. The main bedroom is comfy with a big double bed, though theres not much space on the window side, so youd need to peg the curtains closed to block out light. Theres plenty of storage, which is handy. The small bedroom is mainly used for storage. The outdoor deck is secure for the dog and has good lighting. Wed suggest only opening the lounge windows at the top for safety. Overall, a nice spot that wed recommend.

We had a fabulous week away. The caravan was spacious and clean. Perfect for dogs, could take Cooper 2 mins up the road to a secure dog area. He could also go inside the cafe/games room area. Lovely location to visit different places. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back.

One of the best parks I have ever stayed at, the grounds were immaculate and very tranquil. If you want swimming pools and bingo nights, this is not the camp for you. Perfect location for Thirsk, York and the Moors....will visit again.
The grounds are kept immaculate and there are two enclosed exercise areas for dogs.one being for dogs who are'nt very sociable so have enclosure to themselves.staff very friendly and the whole place is so peaceful and relaxing.

Very quiet peaceful well managed site, neat and tidy with trees and shrubs for interest and some wildlife. It all felt very secure with barriers and gates and attentive staff. This site perfect for those wanting to escape the hussle of life, so very quiet, don't go if you want entertainment or glitz. Our second visit and will go again no question, the ambience is delightful.

A very nice caravan and the site is very clean and well maintained. The process for late arrivals is very safe and secure. They abbreviated the road names, once that clicked we were well away.
Wonderful holiday. Lodge immaculately clean. Beautiful surroundings which were maintained really well. Near to various locations to visit. Ten out of ten Cafe on site which enables you to have 10% reduction if you are staying on site.
