The lodge was beautiful. Its is huge -every room was spacious. There is a range cooker which was a happy surprise, however the kitchen is very sparsely equipped so we did struggle to find the equipment we needed to cook a simple meal (please replace the frying pan, it is dangerously old/damaged!). There isnt anywhere for a family of 4 to eat inside, we often stood at the kitchen island while our children sat on the 2 stools. Not ideal for a lodge that sleeps 4 but wasnt a problem in good weather, as we ate round the tables on the decking. Although the bed bases are too small for the mattresses, they were very comfortable and honestly we didnt notice any difference and slept like babies all week! The bathroom TV remote didnt work, our kids were minorly disappointed but again, a tiny thing so we didnt bother to get it sorted. These are minor things and did not in any way detract from our stay. The photos are to be believed, it really is as beautiful as it looks! The park is very peaceful and the plots are spacious. Theres peace and quiet and wildlife everywhere. A great stay from start to finish! We hope to come back soon.

We had a lovely stay at this cottage! The owners are genuinely warm and helpful, making us feel right at home. The place itself is charming, with that classic half-timbered look and a really strong shower-luxury! The cosy kitchen and comfy bed made it hard to leave. Parking right outside was a real bonus and the place was spotless. We enjoyed peaceful walks to Thaxted and exploring the nearby village with its pretty houses and windmill. Definitely recommend!

We just got back from a four-night stay at this charming cottage and honestly, it was lovely. The owners are really friendly and helpful but not at all intrusive, which was perfect. The big fenced garden was great for our dog to run around safely. The place had everything we needed, including a fully equipped kitchen and a BBQ for one evening. Oh and the hot tub was fantastic! Were already planning to come back and have recommended it to friends. Thanks for a wonderful break!

We spent a week here in July with our two little dachshunds and honestly, it was such a lovely stay. The village of Thaxted is charming and our dogs loved making new friends around the area. The cottage itself is really cosy and the hot tub was a real treat-perfect for those hot days when the water cooled down just right. The hosts were very friendly and made us feel welcome, even taking their horses out to the fields each day. Watching the planes land from near the house was pretty cool too. Would definitely recommend!

We really appreciated the warm welcome from Rob, Sharon and Bonnie when we arrived. Theyve done a lovely job converting this historic building with so much care. Goddard's Mead offers everything you need for a peaceful stay - super comfy and well-equipped. The locations perfect too, right in a lovely part of Essex. Wed definitely suggest taking some time to explore Thaxted and nearby villages; the history and architecture are well worth it. Definitely a place wed return to!

We spent a week here with our two mini dachshunds and really enjoyed our stay. The village of Thaxted is charming and our dogs loved making new friends around town. The cottage itself is lovely, especially the hot tub-perfect for unwinding after a day out and it was a relief that the water was cool thanks to the heatwave! The hosts were very friendly and made us feel welcome; it was nice to see their dogs being taken out to the fields every day. Also, watching the planes land near Stansted from the property was quite a treat. Would definitely recommend!

We recently stayed at Goddard's Mead and honestly, its a lovely place. Rob and Sharon have put a lot of effort into transforming this historic building with care. They were so welcoming when we arrived and Bonnie was adorable. We recently stayed at this place and honestly, we had a mostly good experience. When we booked, we didnt realise it was a br and new site still in setup mode, so some things were missing that youd expect from a 5-star place. There were a few essentials like towels and slippers that werent provided and the WiFi was a bit patchy. Its a shame because the site itself is absolutely stunning and wed definitely return. Our suggestions for improvement include adding towel robes for the hot tub, providing some basic essentials like milk and bread in a welcome pack and including tourist leaflets in the folder. A DVD player would be a nice touch too. Overall though, well done on what youve achieved so far - were looking forward to seeing how it develops. Well be back!

We stayed at this lovely cottage recently and it really exceeded our expectations. The owners were so welcoming and friendly, making us feel right at home. The place itself is adorable, with a charming traditional look and a very comfy bed. The shower was powerful and the heating kept everything cosy. Parking right next to the cottage was a big plus and the location is perfect for exploring the lovely village of Thaxted and the surrounding fields. Wed definitely come back!

We had a lovely time exploring the fields with our dogs, its a perfect spot for walks.

Date of stay: 3rd February 2025
We recently stayed at the Huntly and honestly, its probably the best lodge weve come across. The open-plan kitchen and living area with the electric fire and huge TV make it feel really homely. The bed was super comfy and the shower exceeded our expectations - way better than we thought it would be. Everything like gas and electricity is included in the price, which is a real bonus. The hot tub stays warm constantly, even when you're not in it, which was lovely. Parking was plentiful and the decking looked out onto some absolutely stunning views, perfect for relaxing. The only thing wed say is that the lodge could do with a few more amenities like fairy liquid and hand soap, so its worth bringing your own essentials like washing-up liquid, shower gel, tea bags, coffee, sugar etc. Also, theres gravel between the lodge and hot tub, so wed recommend bringing some sliders or slippers for comfort. Overall, we had a really relaxing stay, the lodge was spotless and felt br and new - we honestly felt like we were the first to use it. Definitely a place wed return to. Would highly recommend!
