Pleasure Beach Resort, long known as Blackpool Pleasure Beach, is an amusement park on Blackpool's South Shore. It was founded in 1896 and sits right along the promenade. Rollercoasters are the main draw, with ten to ride. The Big One was once the tallest and steepest in the world, and is still the longest in Europe.

A 32-acre zoo with over 1,000 animals, including elephants, giraffes, gorillas and big cats, two miles from Blackpool's Golden Mile.
Blackpool Zoo is a 32-acre zoo set beside Stanley Park, about two miles inland from the Golden Mile. It cares for over 1,000 animals from around the world, and opened in 1972 on the site of the old Stanley Park Aerodrome.

Blackpool's Victorian landmark, with panoramic views, a circus and a famous ballroom to explore.
Blackpool Tower opened in 1894 and was inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It stands 518 feet tall, and the Tower Buildings around its base are Grade I listed. The Tower Top offers views across the North West of England, a 4D cinema experience and the SkyWalk glass viewing platform, plus a bar.
Tip: Pre-book online to guarantee entry. The Tower Top is weather permitting, and combined tickets for two attractions save money.

A Warrington theme park built around rides and play areas for children aged 2 to 13.
Gulliver's World is a theme park in Warrington, loosely based on the world of Lilliput from Gulliver's Travels. It is split into themed areas including Western World, Safari Kingdom, Land of Oz, Smuggler's Wharf and Lost World. Rides such as The Antelope, Desperado Drop and Apache Falls sit alongside play areas, both indoors and outdoors, designed for children between 2 and 13.
Tip: The website says booking tickets early can save money, so check online before you go.

A 65-metre steel hypercoaster on Blackpool's seafront, with a 62-metre first drop and speeds up to 74mph.
The Big One is a steel hypercoaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, designed by Ron Toomer and built by Arrow Dynamics. When it opened in 1994 it was the tallest roller coaster in the world, and it still stands 65 metres high with a track over a mile long.
Tip: Watch for the height markers on the lift hill, and smile for the on-ride photo in the tunnel near the end.

A standard gauge heritage railway and museum on Preston Docks, with one of the UK's largest locomotive collections.
Ribble Steam Railway is a standard gauge preserved railway running along Preston Docks. It opened to the public in 2005 and is home to one of the largest collections of locomotives in the United Kingdom, much of it moved from the old Southport Railway Museum.
Tip: Check the railway's website before you go to see which days trains run, as special events need booking in advance.

A Grade I listed Georgian house with wooded parkland, a café and an ice-cream parlour that serves dogs too.
Lytham Hall is an 18th-century Georgian country house, about a mile from the centre of Lytham, and it is Grade I listed. The website calls it the finest Georgian house in Lancashire. It was designed by John Carr of York and was the ancestral home of the Clifton family for four centuries. Parts of the earlier Jacobean house from 1606 still survive around the courtyard.

The Harris is a Grade I-listed museum, art gallery and public library in Preston, Lancashire. The Neo-Classical building has a grand portico and a pediment sculpture based on Raphael's The School of Athens. The large 8 person lodge was lovely, very roomy and clean. No BBQ included which is a bit annoying for he amount of money you pay. (you can hire for a daily charge). The biggest problem for our holiday was that there was no wifi in the property and this caused problems for our son who needed to work whilst we were away. This cost him money to travel to Blackpool library and park each day to do some work, not ideal. Staff didn't seem unduly bothered by the fact that they are not providing wifi even though it advertises that it is provided. Fins Cafe bar has a lovely fibe but is only open Thursday to Sunday and is not part of Ream Hills but worth going to.
Had a great weekend here, would definitely recommend it! Perfect for a relaxing anniversary getaway.
We stayed here for a week in July with our two mini dachshunds and honestly, it was lovely. The cottage is charming and really well-kept, with the hot tub being a real highlight - especially during the hot weather, since it was cooled down and super refreshing. The hosts were very friendly and made us feel really welcome, which was a nice touch. Watching the planes land from the nearby flight path was surprisingly relaxing and the dogs loved making new friends in the village of Thaxted. Wed definitely recommend it for a peaceful getaway!
The owners are genuinely lovely and went above and beyond when the storm knocked out the power. The place was spotless, warm and well-equipped. Our dog loved the enclosed garden and we really enjoyed the hot tub too!
We had a really lovely stay at this place! The setting is absolutely beautiful and very private, perfect for a relaxing getaway. The owners were super friendly and always ready to help if needed, but it never felt intrusive. The hot tub was such a treat after a day of cycling - really hit the spot. Only thing to keep in mind is that the cottage is under the flight path at Stansted, so theres quite a bit of aircraft noise. Luckily, we got used to it quickly and it didnt ruin our holiday at all. Definitely recommend!

Robert and Sharon are genuinely lovely folks, making us feel really welcome. The place itself is huge, with a well-equipped kitchen and comfy bed. The gardens perfect for dogs, totally secluded and with nice furniture. Plenty of walks nearby and Thaxted has some great restaurants - we especially enjoyed The Star and The Maypole. My stay at Ream hills was fab couldn’t fault a thing very private our lodge was spotless on arrival had everything we needed and to top it off we had a Christmas tree up it was so cosy we had the best time and will be back again 100%.
