Sherwood Castle Holiday Forest - Reviews

Our lodge was pet friendly. Although we didnt have a pet or small kids I think the absence of a gate on the decking area would have been a nightmare if we did have a dog/little kids. The hot tub was nice, the lodge was ok for the needs - pretty basic. The mattresses on the bunk beds were very uncomfortable and the pillows like wood. We had to sleep on spare duvets to make the mattress softer! The reception area/visitors centre is bizarre and dated - a great big wooden castle with a tennis court inside and pool table etc plus lots of old props from the 1991 film Robin Hood Prince of Thieves which gives it a really strange, old fashioned air. Especially the dusty stuffed animals dotted about.! Unfortunately the pool was out of service during the Easter holidays which was a disappointment and one of the main reasons we booked. The location is great and we saw Sherwood Forest and Hardwick Hall and Rufford Abbey during our stay.

Master bedroom mattress have to be changed, it's very old and the springs not supporting the weight of your body

The only complaint we had was the mattress on the bed, it was too soft giving us both who are pensioners a sore back. This would not be an issue for most people but a little more comfort would be appreciated.

The beds were too soft for my liking and some things were not cleaned properly before my stay. The lodge in whole has been very nice

We really enjoyed our stay, everything was clean and well kept. The kids enjoyed feeding the animals and exploring in the woods and playing in the parks. The swimming pool was a good size for private hire but sometimes the kids wanted a little longer than 30 minutes. Staff were really friendly and helpful.

I came here a few years ago and it was lovely now it looks very tied the cabin was dirty not been cleaned properly dirty pots in the cupboard I had to clean the dishwasher before I could use it it was filthy. Bedding not the best so glad we took our own pillows. Someone with a dog must have stayed before us as there was clumps of dog hair on the floor. Which is a shame because we love where it is nice walks places to visit and nice pubs that do lovely meals. Hopefully will get better need to employ a good cleaning company.

Cheap man's centre parks. It's OK, but hot water was hit and miss in the cabin. Cleaning could of been better, dishwasher had bits of food in from previous people who stayed there. Also the park bins were overflowing which brought the feel of rhe park down. Some nice parts were the pool which you could book per cabin so had it to yourself.

We have been to this park for New Years, for the past 10 years. The kids love and feel free to go off and play and explore. Its a beautiful, convenient spot with friendly staff. I just wish that there were a few more updates such as heating in the pool, somewhere to grab a coffee/cake etc. on site while kids are playing.

Comfortable and enjoyable accommodation, I would of liked the option for bunk beds or 2 singles in a room. Kitchen facilities were good but basic. The shop on site didn't sell basics. More sweets and fizzy drinks. Would of liked to bread milk butter etc but didn't have any. Castle staff were very relaxed and flexible about booking activities.

Lodge was perfect for a short stay with my 2 boys ged 4 and 6, our 2 dogs and my husband. Perfect dog walks on the door step and kids kept happy with facilities avaliable. Was perfect place to stay to visit family who live in Mansfield. Also close by to centre parcs to enjoy a spa day. Almost 1k difference in price for lodge at same time at CP and we found it to be so much more dog friendlier with off lead walk avaliable.Only thing I didn't like was bathroom was smelly and cold (damp like) and the sofas were small and cold! Would however return

We've just returned from a 4 night break over October half term. We didn't have a bad experience as such but there is definitely room for improvement. We arrived in the evening and could not find reception as it is not sign posted. Eventually we asked some workmen the way and they directed us through all of their tools and equipment into the reception area.Cabin was a bit tired and worn out but i wasn't expecting the earth. Only 2 out of the 4 hobs worked and the kitchen lino was lifted and we kept tripping up. Kitchen was poorly stocked. We had hardly any toilet roll in our cabin and when i asked for more at reception i was a bit surprised to be told that i had to purchase more from the shop. Shop itself wasn't well stocked. You couldn't buy milk and i assumed that would be a staple that people would likely want to buy and expected it to be able to be purchasedWe chose this site mainly for it's facilities but we found that most things were unavailable during our visit. My son had been looking forward to archery but we discovered this was unavailable. Same with the pool tables as that area was taped off. We were able to book a 30 mins swim in the pool though. Children's play area was mediocre but my children did use it. For a site lacking in it's advertised facilities i would have expected the customer service to be good to compensate for this. The staff we found did the bare minimum to help you and were not very approachable. Just yes or no responses which seemed a little awkward. I was going to raise it with reception as we checked out but when i arrived the receptionist was on the phone. When she noticed me she asked could she help and when i said that i was there to check out she directed me to leave my keys on the desk and went back to her phone call. There was no follow up to ask whether we'd had a nice stay or if we'd had any problems. It was very much just drop your keys and leave. Over all not the best experience and i doubt we'll be back. Also the site had no wifi and i think these days wifi should really come as part of the deal.

Not great. Just do a bit more looking around and find some where with better reviews. The staff were lovely but the site needs some attention.

We stayed here for a couple of nights with my 9 year old niece who has additional needs. I had some misgivings when I booked because reviews were mixed, but I was extremely impressed. The cabin we stayed in was clean and had everything we needed. It was in a lovely quiet location and perfect for us. My niece loved the woods and the various play areas while the grownups enjoyed the peace and beautiful setting. Being able to book the swimming pool for our exclusive use was a real treat. This probably doesn't have all the facilities of some of the larger holiday parks in the area but for us that was perfect as it made for a more peaceful and relaxed break. The grounds were well maintained considering the woodland setting and although there was some maintenance work going on while we were there it wasn't disruptive at all Everyone we dealt with who worked there was extremely helpful and accommodating.

Was a lovely place nice and quiet and clean. Loved the swimming pool to ourselves. The only thing was maybe the sofas need an update and duvet cover in main bedroom could have been slightly larger. Apart from that it was a great stay we would visit again but maybe only a long weekend. As we thought a week was a little long with to teenagers.

Having stayed at Sherwood Castle on a number of occasions we were looking forward to a relaxing holiday. Everything was amazing, except the beds were not the comfiest. I'm sure that when we've stayed before there was an ironing board and an iron in each cabin, and there was nothing. Also the kitchen utensils were very sparce. These are only minor irks, because we did have a fab time and wouldn't stop us from staying again (well, maybe the beds....).

Third visit to Sherwood Castle, I really like the site and location. Can see massive changes and improvements in this visit, hot tubs & saunas getting put in and cabins updated / painted, Im interested to see how it goes under the new ownership. The forest is lovely, the pool slots are a bit too limiting in 30 min slots but quite like the 2 cabin booking so suppose they have to give everyone chance to use it. Will be good having a dining place there, good luck. Plenty to do in the area so this is a great base. Locally its a real shame the ford has been closed off as that was a novelty.

We had the most wonderful stay. Over and above what we expected. Excellent location, wonderful woodland wanders. Quiet and peaceful just as we hoped.

Had a wonderful time away. Really enjoyed this place. It was myself, 14 year old boy and my dad. My 14 year old enjoyed all the sports that was available. The location is in the middle of where we wanted to visit within the area. The cabin was very homely and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and very welcoming. Thank you for a wonderful time
