Mangapps is a working railway and museum set on a farm near Burnham-on-Crouch. Trains run along a standard gauge line past restored stations and signal boxes brought in from various sites across East Anglia and beyond. The railway has 18 steam and diesel locomotives and over 80 carriages and wagons, some of considerable historic and technical interest.

Layer Marney Tower is a Grade I listed early Tudor house in Essex, built in rich red brick with some of the finest Italianate terracotta in the country. Its gatehouse is the tallest Tudor example in Britain, and it was begun by Henry, 1st Lord Marney, who served Henry VIII as Lord Privy Seal.

Ingatestone Hall is a Grade I listed 16th-century manor house in open countryside outside the village of Ingatestone, about five miles south west of Chelmsford. Sir William Petre built it, and his family still own and live in it. It keeps much of its original Tudor look, with mullioned windows, high chimneys, crow-step gables and oak-panelled rooms.
Tip: The house is only open on set days in the summer season, and some events change or restrict access, so check the Events list shortly before you go.

Needs more seating outside for 6 people. Decking needs attention, and some inside bits need attention, just general TLC and maintenance.

Lovely weekend, peaceful site .
Lodge needs cleaning and modernising. Basic equipment lacking I.e. not enough plates/glasses, everything needed washing before bring used.
The lodge itself is really roomy, with comfy bedrooms and a large living space. The estates got loads of activities like a pool, gym and golf. Just wish there were more utensils and crockery and the hot tub needed a clean.

The orchard was quite comfy for what we needed, but a few tweaks could make it even better. Love the location and having the pool and restaurant right there was a plus!

We recently visited from Canada and honestly, staying at #17 Warren Lodge was the highlight of our trip! It exceeded all our expectations and then some. The lodge is simply fantastic and we can't wait to return. Thanks for making our holiday so memorable - it truly was an unforgettable experience! Definitely recommend!
I came over from Canada and this was the best vacation I've ever had, staying at #17 Warren Lodge!!! It was everything I had hoped for and sooo much more!! My husband and I will absolutely be coming back to stay at this wonderful and amazing lodge! Thank you for the great memories!!!!
In the description of the lodge it was described as luxurious but if this is your idea of luxury we dread to think what would constitute a basic lodge. The lodge is so run down and in need of a complete refurbishment, it was as clean as the fabulous cleaning team could make it, but it did not come up to the expected standard considering the amount we had paid for this lodge. The kitchen was very badly equipped and of the 5 burners on the hob only 2 worked, considering this was for 6 people there was not sufficient crockery etc supplied. The outside is in an awful condition and the outside of the windows was filthy. We booked the lodge as we were attending a wedding and also our family were joining us from Switzerland, we know that there were no other 3 bed lodges available because when we arrived we were informed that the hot tub was not working, not a problem thank you for the refund, and the only other lodge available at the time was a 2 bed lodge. We felt there was no point in complaining as we needed to be at the Warren Estate and where else could we go. The site is beautiful and very peaceful, the only good thing was that the beds were very comfortable, the staff were so friendly and welcoming but we feel that this standard of accommodation reflects on Warren Estate reputation. The lodge is actually for sale and we showed a prospective purchaser around, they told us that they had been informed it was in need of a complete refurbishment, so once again how can it be described as luxurious. We really do feel that this contravenes Trading Standards and feel that we should be given some recompense for the fact that the advertisement was so misleading.
The lodge itself was comfy, though it definitely needs a bit of a facelift. The hot tub was fantastic and had all the essentials. Signal was pretty rubbish and Wi-Fi was almost non-existent, but the location was perfect for exploring and just a short trip to London. Would stay again!
Really pleased with the spot, perfect for six outside seats, lovely view and all we needed really.
We stayed at this lodge recently and honestly, it was quite lovely. The place is bright and spacious, which we really appreciated. The pool was warm and perfect for relaxing after a day out. A couple of things could be improved - like the inside of the fridge needing a proper clean and the internal doors looking a bit grubby. Also, only one towel each was provided, plus a kitchen towel, so we had to bring extra towels ourselves. No hand towels or bath mat was a bit tricky. Still, we loved our stay and definitely want to return!

We really enjoyed our stay. The chalet was comfy and roomy, just a bit in need of some sprucing up. The hot tub was a real highlight and the layout offered good privacy.

We visited after a few years and its still just as lovely. The staff are friendly, the lodge is cosy and the discount for last-minute booking was a nice bonus! Definitely planning to return again soon.

The accommodation was absolutely lovely very vey clean and they had thought of everything lovely little touches. The staff were amazing so very helpful and before we finished our break we booked to go back. Amazing.
Stayed with family and had the freedom to come and go, although there were a lot of lodges I still felt we had privacy, only complaint was the kids couldn't go in pool after six but overall we had a lovely time
This lodge is beautiful, in a gorgeous location and the Lodges are not too close so you get privacy.
Few little bits niggled me initially but really ot worth the bother in the long run.

We had a lovely time. At arrival we found out that the hottub wasn't working and the staff let us change with another accommodation.
The staff were helpful and polite, i have stayed in lodge 26 before and saw the improvement to the decking and the new hottub, the decor of the lodge looks a little tired and is in need of redecorating, torn wall paper in the bathroom and a couple of other locations also the strings to the blinds need repairing or replacing. The location is great abd the swimming pool abd gym to a high standard
