The Milky Way is a family-run adventure park on a former dairy farm near Bideford. It has more than 110,000 sq ft of indoor attractions as well as acres of outdoor space, so a day here works whatever the weather. Rides include roller coasters, indoor dodgems, a mini-train and Ziggy's Blast Quest, an interactive laser shooting ride.

Lutyens designed England's last castle, a granite home above the Teign Gorge with gardens and walks.
Castle Drogo is a country house and mixed-revivalist castle near Drewsteignton, built between 1911 and 1930 and known as the last castle built in England. Edwin Lutyens designed it for Julius Drewe, the founder of the Home and Colonial Stores. It is built of granite and overlooks the Teign Gorge. The castle is Grade I listed and the gardens are Grade II* listed.
Tip: The car park has limited spaces, so if it is full, come back another time rather than parking along the drive, which blocks farm vehicles.

Explore the ruined medieval home of the Courtenays on a wooded ridge above the West Okement river.
Okehampton Castle is a ruined medieval castle on a wooded ridge above the swift-flowing West Okement river. It began as a Norman motte and bailey castle, and in the 14th century Hugh Courtenay developed it into a palatial home. You can still explore the remains of his buildings, from the keep mound to the tall gatehouse.
Tip: Wear sturdy footwear for the steps and uneven ground, and note that opening depends on volunteer availability, so it can close at short notice.

The Museum of Witchcraft and Magic is in the village of Boscastle in Cornwall. It is dedicated to European witchcraft and magic, with exhibits on folk magic, ceremonial magic, Freemasonry and Wicca. Its collection of such objects has been described as the largest in the world.
Tip: The museum's website says there is no parking at the museum, so plan how you will get to Boscastle before you set off.

A former Cistercian abbey turned Elizabethan home of Sir Francis Drake, with gardens, a medieval barn and woodland walks.
Buckland Abbey was founded as a Cistercian abbey in 1278 and later became the home of Sir Francis Drake. Unusually, the church was kept as the heart of the house when it was converted. Explore the Grade I listed building, where Drake's Drum is part of the collection, then see the medieval Great Barn next to the house.
Tip: Dogs on leads can go almost everywhere except the Kitchen Garden, but only assistance dogs are allowed inside the Abbey. Parking is free.

A Courtenay family home on the Exe estuary, with Victorian additions, grand interiors and historic parkland.
Powderham Castle is a fortified manor house six miles south of Exeter, on flat ground beside the Exe estuary. The medieval core dates from after 1390, and the house was extended and altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. It has been home to the Courtenay family, Earls of Devon, for centuries.
Tip: The main public entrance gates are in the village of Kenton, so head there rather than to the castle's other side.

We had a fantastic stay! The cottage was super well-maintained and had everything we needed. Plenty of lovely walks for the dogs just outside the door. The host was really friendly and quick to respond, which made everything smooth. We loved meeting the farm animals, especially Penelope the pig. Definitely coming back-great value! Highly recommend.
We just got back from a week at Goddards Mead and it was fantastic! The cottage had everything we needed and the hosts were genuinely lovely. Even though its on a working farm, it felt so peaceful-truly a good place. Wed definitely go back!

We had a lovely stay at this cosy cottage tucked away on a working farm, yet it feels surprisingly private. Robert and Sharon are such friendly hosts, really warm and welcoming. The place is huge, with a well-equipped kitchen and a comfy bed that made us feel right at home. The gardens perfect for dogs - totally private and furnished nicely. We enjoyed exploring the nearby walks and tried some great restaurants in Thaxted, especially The Star and The Maypole. Definitely recommend!

We stayed at this place during a rainy December and honestly, it was perfect. The house is super well equipped and kept us cosy all weekend. The bath was fantastic and the shower was big enough for a proper rinse! Being on a flight path didnt bother us at all-dont let that put you off. A quick heads-up: the cottage is right under Stansteds flight path, so theres quite a bit of aircraft noise. It took us a couple of hours to get used to it, but honestly, it didnt ruin our holiday at all. Would definitely recommend!

Lovely quiet and relaxed site. Lodges are spacious, well maintained, well equipped and very clean. Close to Dartmoor and 30 minutes from the beaches of Bude. Roadford lake, which is great for water sports is just down the road.

We spent five nights in Ruby Country Lodges.
The complex was in a secluded spot and there was plenty of things to do in the area. It was calm and peaceful.
The maintenance staff Mark was available every day and he and his colleagues are up keeping the complex to a high standard.
The instructions for guests was extremely clear and all our queries were answered in the booklet.

After being disappointed after our last 2 visits ,2 shabby lodges , especially the last one . this time we were not disappointed, lodge spotless , bed very comfortable and overall the site looking very tidy . Can’t wait til we return next March

Lodge was great, everyone loved it and hot tub was fab.
This was our 3 rd visit and the lodge which was a Tamar is looking tired and some of the kitchen cupboards and cooker need a good steam clean. Dirty marks on the mattress which we only discovered when we stripped the beds. Needs updating and refreshing especially the decking and outdoor furniture
We have been going to Ruby lodges for about 8 years now and we absolutely love it! It’s quiet and relaxing and such a peaceful retreat. The lodges are always spotless and the staff are extremely helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them, we would highly recommend it here.
