Book Holiday Lodge

We wanted to try a lodge holiday and chose Exmoor Gate as it seemed to tick all the boxes for us with location and accommodation. We were not disappointed at all and had a really nice time. The lodge was huge with an excellent kitchen and lovely big bed in the master bedroom. We had chosen the Exmoor Gate Lodge Plus so we also had hot tub and this really made the holiday for us.

We had a great time at Exmoor Gate Lodges. I can't imagine anywhere having better comms with guests, or being run more efficiently. We made use of the games room with pool table and air hockey, and the kids enjoyed the swimming pool, which we hired out for 2 hours one evening. Booking these lodges meant we enjoyed use of a private hot tub, which turned out to be worth quite a few brownie points with the family! Getting in there first thing in the morning with a coffee and watching the butterflies scoot around for their breakfast was idyllic. So many species of bird too. Creation really does show how awesome our God is; our creator and saviour. There were lots of walks suggested and the Lodges made the perfect base for exploring the whole area. You must go to Tarr Farm, which does the best cream teas, and cross the Tarr Steps over the river there. We spent 2 afternoons at Wimbleball Lake with the kayaks and paddleboards. Next time we might get an eFly lesson. Finally, if you fancy an Indian takeaway, Wiveliscombe (5 min away by car), makes some of the best Indian food I've had in a long time. My tip is the Lamb Saag... gorgeous. I hope you have a great yine like we did.

This is not value for money in my opinion. The picture shown on the website is the 1 large rental they have, so very misleading when booking. There is a coin meter for you to pay for your own electric & as previously stated, pool & sauna come at an extra charge. There is a detailed price list in the welcome pack for items broken/ lost items, from knives & forks to salt and pepper shakers, plates & cups etc. There is an envelope provided for cost of damaged items, which i found very rude & not at all welcoming. I find it in very poor taste given the price of the booking that if you dropped a mug, for example, you had to pay for it. Thankfully we had no damages. Cleanliness was fair at best. Dust on bedside lamps, questionable bubbles in the hot tub. Hot tub use is not permitted after 10.30pm. The beds were so uncomfortable. Very small (3/4 bed in main room) squeaked, pillows rock solid. Couldn't sleep on the sofas as they were too small, & not even a rug down to sleep on the lounge floor. Flooring stuck to the lower walls as decoration? was very questionable. Not a fancy place in the slightest. You were made VERY aware that guests were not going to cost this couple a penny.

We thought the lodge was a bit pricey for just two of us, but since it sleeps five, its understandable. The place was spotless when we arrived and everything worked fine during our stay. The bathroom heater was broken when we got there, but they fixed it pretty quick-really good service overall!

We had a lovely holiday surrounded by such beautiful scenery. The only snag was we couldnt leave the dogs alone, so no dinner out for us. Still, the 10 days flew by and it was a really great experience!
