Oakwood Lodges - Reviews

As previously stated.

We went here in 2022 it was perfect. This time not so much, decking was rotten and not screwed down in places so not good. Never saw anybody come to check the hot tub once, everywhere else we have been they check them upto twice aday. Inside cobwebs in most corners even behind a small table in the living room what had never been moved. The fridge was very hot when you opened the door the heat it you, all the worktop above it was very hot too.

Again we had a fabulous time ,the lodge was clean and was equipped with everything we needed as per earlier in the review just the bed and no fans to accommodate the hot weather .

An enjoyable time , very peaceful.

We just loved every minute

Lodge was clean and internally modern. Hottub was clean on arrival. Would definitely return.

Firstly. This is not our first stay at these lodges and our previous holidays here have been excellent. Unfortunately not on this occasion. On the day of departing our home we received an email informing us that we would now been staying in a different lodge to the one we had booked - not a big problem we thought (how wrong we were). A new owner had recently taken possession of the lodges and was in the process of refurbishing them - I say transforming them very loosely as they now going to a party/tropical Ibiza style jungle with Tigers wallpaper with pool tables, dart board, outdoor fridge and bar etc, and not the previously quiet and romantic getaway for couples. At no time were we informed of the building/renovation work to be carried out. We could not use the hot tub as and when we wanted due to the work being carried out, IE trees being cut down next to our lodge, and rubbish being burnt instead of being recycled. Also I had to move my car as they were spray painting the outside of the lodge next to us. The day before we were due to depart, the new owners wife came to see me and asked had we been disturbed during the disruption. I informed her of our experience and she apologised and offered us a 20% discount on our next booking if we booked direct through them - unfortunately we won't be returning. Also during my conversation with her she informed me that they have big plans for site including a restaurant and communal hot tub ????

Lovely long weekend away would stay again

Can't say enough good things about this site, and the staff Everything you need for a relaxing week away.

Great lodge and hot tub, very relaxing

We had such a lovely stay at this charming cottage. The quiet setting was perfect for relaxing and the hot tub was just what we needed after long walks. The place was spotless and had everything we could think of. Highly recommended!

We needed a get-away for a dog walk and it was spot on. Lovely place to stay, with pubs and eateries nearby, plus endless fields and trails. Our dog didnt want to leave, honestly! Highly recommend.

Been in 3 of the lodges before all very high quality

We loved the calm atmosphere and the Jacuzzi was just fantastic!

10 out of 10

Comfy beds, decent shower, and pretty much all the amenities required. Guests may want to bring their own clothes airer. It's one of the only things not provided, but would be handy to dry your towels and swimwear on, after being in the hot tub

Really enjoyed our stay! The cottage was lovely, especially the hot tub and log burner. Hosts were friendly, super peaceful, hope to come back soon!

From the moment we arrived, Rob, Sharon and Bonnie made us feel really welcome. They've done a fantastic job converting this historic place with such care. The house itself is cosy and well-equipped for a relaxing stay. The location is perfect for exploring Essex, especially if you enjoy wandering through charming villages like Thaxted. We loved soaking up the history and beautiful buildings nearby. Definitely a place wed return to!

Lovely location. Quiet and restful away from the nearest village with an abundance of bird life from our deck. Very clean accommodation. Well equipped. Sparkling clean hot tub, up to temperature when we arrived. A personal preference, I think the main bedroom which is a really good size would benefit from a king-size bed. We faced the lake and our deck felt very private with no-one opposite us. We visited for a weekend in March and thought it was good value.

We loved staying here! The place is super peaceful, far from the busy village and we enjoyed watching all the bird life from the deck. The accommodation was spotless and well equipped, which made everything easy. The hot tub was sparkling clean and ready to go when we arrived-such a nice touch. If were honest, the main bedroom could do with a king-size bed, but overall, it felt really private facing the lake. Great value for a weekend getaway in March!

Hot tub was a bonus

From the moment we arrived, we were pretty impressed - the bedroom really does have that wow factor. We were a bit thrown off by the fridge situation, though. Its listed as a fridge freezer, but its actually just an under-counter fridge with a tiny freezer compartment. Not a big deal for a weekend, but we stayed for a week and had loads of frozen food in cool bags, so it was a bit inconvenient. Maybe the description should be clearer so folks dont get caught out. The windows in the kitchen and bedroom could do with a good clean - when the suns shining, you notice how grubby they are. A shelf in the shower would be a handy addition, too. As others mentioned, the TV is quite small, so upgrading that would be nice. More plug sockets would also make things easier. Despite these minor gripes, we really enjoyed ourselves - the hot tub was definitely the best weve ever used. Wed happily come back for another weekend away if we get the chance!

Absolutely loved it here

Really enjoyed our trip! The place was spotless, well-equipped and the hot tub was a highlight!

Overall, I think it's a decent product. The only tiny gripe is that I prefer softer pillows, so it took me some time to settle in comfortably. Nothing major, just personal preference really.

My only even slight moan if I absolutely had to make one is more a personal preference of me liking a soft pillow so it did take me a while to get comfortable at night.

The cottage was lovely, perfect for a peaceful escape. The only thing to note is the occasional night-time plane noise since it's close to Stansted. Hot tub was a real highlight!

The place was super tidy and the beds were really comfy with loads of pillows. Everything in the kitchen was there, making it easy to cook. Wed stay again for sure!

We had an absolutely lovely stay! The cottage was spotlessly clean and really well equipped. The peaceful setting was perfect for unwinding and the hot tub was definitely a highlight. Plenty of walks nearby and the village had charm too. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing weekend here, honestly couldnt have asked for more! The place was perfect for us and the dogs, especially with the underfloor heating which they adored. The garden was a hit too - Luna was wagging her tail like crazy all weekend, so much fun! Well definitely be returning soon, absolutely loved it!

Absolutely loved this holiday to celebrate our 60th birthdays. Such a peaceful location surrounded wildlife, the House martins were a treat to watch. The lodge has everything you need in it to enjoy your stay. The site manager Gerry was really helpful especially in recommending places to eat out at. Easy to get to Selby & York. We will definitely return. TY

Loverly location nice and relaxing good quality and modern Lodge very helpful staff would recommend to any body

If you want a little luxury, and complete peace and quiet this is the place to go.

Gerry and Garry are excellent and really make you feel at home.

Beautiful and peaceful holiday, great location and settings. My third stay here and will come back again. A relaxing holiday, just what I wanted.

Secluded and so peaceful. Great location just a few miles from York and designer outlet park and ride.

Had a great stay, place is lovely and the view as well as the family of ducks are beautiful. The lodge was clean and nicely decorated and having the hot tub was an added bonus. Would recommend this place for any romantic getaway. Thank you.

Superb location and good accommodation

We had a great week, lodge was really good and had everything we needed. We all loved it, we had the hottest day ever though and needed fans for nighttime. Superb location for us we had two children with us so we’re out most days then back later in…hot tub was great for us as a family too.

A lovely peaceful break with lovely clean accommodation and friendly helpful staff

What an Amazing lodge, it's luxurious and relaxing. We stayed for a week and it was so chilled. The bedroom definitely has the wow factor. It was the comfiest bed I've ever slept on and the shower is amazing. We were there during the heat wave and temperatures got to 40°. We turned the hot tub down low and used it to cool off. The kitchen was well aquiped and had everything we needed. We headed into York one day and used the park and ride to get there. York was lovely. The only downfall of the whole break was the garden furniture. The chairs are uncomfortable and because they were metal got excruciatingly hot during the day that you couldn't sit on them. As it was so hot you wanted to be outside but unfortunately there was nowhere to relax. I'd have rated this 10/10 if the furniture had been a bit more comfortable and practical. If we went again we would take our own garden loungers.

Excellent holiday been here 4 times now and love it more each time.

Was amazing! Came here for a weekend away with a date and it was that beautiful we made our relationship official! Absolutely beautiful place!

Beautiful lodge, overlooking a small lake, occupied by wildlife. Superb hot tub and modern lodge. Very relaxing ! Well worth a second visit.
