The Essex Golf and Country Club - Reviews

This is the 3rd hoseasons. Lodge we have stayed at and compared to the others feel this was poorly cleaned and maintained. We were aware when we booked it was a pet lodge, so were prepared for some wear and tear. However fridge and freezer were both frozen! Missing cutlery ( lucky there was only the 2 of us), odd assortment of plates. Pet food in one of the draws, as well as left over food stuck at the back of the freezer. The staff in the bar and Resterant were young and inexperienced, and service slow.

Great break, basic but everything we needed was in the lodge, beds were comfortable, hot tub was nice, perhaps too warm but a bi e way to relax

We had a lovely stay at the lodge. The place felt really modern and had everything we could possibly need. The views were stunning, lots of windows for natural light and the hot tub on the deck was a highlight-used it every day! Definitely recommend it to others!

Really enjoyed the peaceful vibe

We loved the Stisted lodge! It was spotless and surprisingly roomy, with lots of comfy seating. The hot tub was perfect for unwinding after a long day. Only downside was the bed-awful sleep-so we ended up on the sofa instead. Still, well be back!

Weve stayed at this lodge before and loved it so much we came back for another week. Its super relaxing, surrounded by peaceful scenery and perfect for taking the dog out. The facilities are really handy too - free access to the pool, gym and steam room, which we made good use of. The lodge itself is roomy enough for four adults and the kitchen is pretty well stocked, though a bigger fridge and more cutlery wouldnt go amiss. When we arrived, the shower gel was empty, but housekeeping sorted it out quickly and even left a couple of extra towels when we asked. Last time, there was a lovely dog basket with treats and toys, but this time it was missing. Also, apparently, the salt & pepper grinders are just decorative! Still, we had a fantastic stay and already plan to come back again.

We stayed in this same lodge last year, loved it so much we returned for another week. Its relaxing, with peaceful surroundings, places to take the dog, and great facilities. Free use of the swimming pool, gym, steam room etc. I imagine there is a charge for the golf. The lodge itself is spacious enough for 4 adults. Kitchen is quite well equipped, could do with a larger fridge and more cutlery/crockery.The shower gel was empty on arrival, but housekeeping refilled, and left a couple of extra towels we asked for. Last year there was a complimentary dog basket, with treats and toys, but not this time. And apparently the salt & pepper grinders are "decorative"! Those couple of niggles aside, we had a great time and will be returning.

The lodges are quite nice, but the toilet paper is really flimsy and cheap. Itd be good to have a second TV in a bedroom, especially with teenagers around!

For luxury lodges The toilet paper very cheap and thin. Could have another television in one of the bedrooms, especially if you have two teenagers with you.

Great stay, the kids had an amazing time!

We had a really lovely time staying here. The lodge was fantastic, with excellent facilities all around. The hot tub was a real highlight! Felt completely safe and secure during our stay. Definitely planning to come back soon!!

We had a great stay at Stisted Lodge! The place was spotless and looked pretty new, which was lovely. The hot tub was definitely a highlight, we used it twice daily. The only thing that was a bit of a pain was the check-in and check-out times - kinda cut our holiday short, which was a shame.

We had a fantastic stay at the lodge! The place looked modern and super welcoming. The hot tub was just the right size for all five of us to relax comfortably. The staff were really friendly and went out of their way to help us with everything. The only minor issues were some stains on the sofas, which we figured were from wet bottoms after using the hot tub and the mattresses could do with being a bit thicker. Also, having a mirror in each bedroom would be handy. Still, we loved it and would definitely return!

We really enjoyed our stay at Chappell Lodge. The staff were super friendly and always ready to help. The place was spotless and had all the essentials. The hot tub was a real highlight! Wouldve loved a mirror in each single room, maybe a small TV too, but overall, great!

The location was peaceful, with beautiful views of the golf course. The lodge was spacious and spotlessly clean, with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Wed definitely come back!

The lodge was stunning and had everything we needed. The mattress was firm, but manageable. Hot tub was a bit tricky to turn off sometimes, but overall, a lovely stay!

We were looking for a nice getaway and decided to try out Stisted Lodge for a week. Honestly, it was a great choice. The place felt really homely and was surprisingly spacious, which was perfect for our family of four. We loved how well equipped everything was - made cooking and relaxing super easy. The TV setup with Netflix and Disney+ was a real bonus, especially for the kids. The hot tub was a nice treat after a long day and we made the most of the swimming pool and gym too, which made our stay even better. The showers weren't the most powerful and didnt get super hot, but honestly, thats a minor quibble. The only thing that was slightly annoying was the way to get to the club - you can't access it from the rear, so you have to walk all the way around, which is a bit of a trek, especially with young kids. Still, its not a huge deal, just a slight inconvenience. Overall, we had a lovely time and definitely plan to come back sometime soon. Its a peaceful spot, great for a family escape and we left feeling really relaxed. Would recommend to anyone looking for a comfy break away from the hustle!

We had a really nice New Years break here. The place was super cosy and spacious and it stayed warm even in the cold. Our 8-year-old absolutely loved the swimming pool and the hot tub - kept her entertained for ages! The staff were all lovely and friendly. Cant wait to come back in summer and explore more around the area. Thanks for a great stay!

We had such a lovely stay here! The lodge itself is stunning and super cosy and the hot tub really made our trip special. We loved how private it was, tucked away in a quiet spot and accessible from both bathrooms - perfect for relaxing. The peaceful surroundings made it even better. Were definitely keen to return sometime. A couple of tiny niggles though - check-in at 5pm feels a bit late and check-out at 9am is a tad early, so maybe extending those hours would help. Oh and a couple of sun loungers on the decking would be a great addition, especially if the weathers nice. All in all, a really nice place!

Chappel Lodge really impressed us - spacious, spotless and super comfy. The modern design is quite stylish too. The hot tub was a highlight, even if it wasnt warm enough initially and the mattresses, though a bit thin and springy, didnt stop us from sleeping soundly. Overall, a lovely stay!

Great lodge, clean and tidy and have everything we needed there. The country club was nice, we had breakfast there one day which was nice. I was let down by the spa as I asked if there was disabled changing facilities for myself (a disabled adult) but they said they weren't sure. There wasn't any and the ladies changing room had a step to the showers which isn't very accessible. I also wanted to book a beauty treatment and was told to email them. I tried calling worried they wouldn't get the email the same day. The phone rang to voicemail and I left my details. No one has ever rung me back.

Myself and friends had a great time. We were there for the weekend and it was perfect

We have just returned home from 2 wonderful weeks staying in Chappel Lodge 2. The accommodation was superb and had everything you could need. The staff were fantastic, so friendly and helpful. We were sad to leave. Would definitely recommend and hope to return in the future. Thank you to all at The Essex Golf and Country Club.

The location is peaceful and clean environment.It is a very peaceful environment for family bonding. The receptionist were friendly and helpful. Gym is well equipped, I just love this place and can't fault it in anyway. There are other facilities on site which are lovely. I highly recommend it and will visit with my family again.

We had the best time at Chappel lodge. The lodge is beautiful, plenty of space and full equipped for everything we needed. Hot tub was lush. Only downside we found were the mattresses being very thin and springy. Over all we had an amazing time away and will definitely be back again very soon. Staff were very helpful and Hana at the aura spa deserves a special mention. Best massage I’ve ever had.

Very clean and modern accommodation with everything you need for short stay.

A great venue, with many activities and close to a number of off site amenities. The Hot tub was disappointing, although it was sparklingly clean & operated well, access/exit was difficult due to insufficient space between the glass privacy panel & the outer edge of the tub especially as 1st step down was located in centre. There were no handrails nor indication that the glass panel could or should be utilised. Consequently, my wife was unable use the tub at all.
