Just got back from Messingham Grange we paid for a VIP hot tub lodge but unfortunately it wasnt what we would expect for a VIP. The cleaning has a lot to be desired there was dust and cobwebs in every room from the wood cladding in the bedrooms to the main lights in every room, the windows could also do with a window clean. We also asked for a coffee table as we went over the Christmas period we had a massive space in the middle of the lounge area which was obviously for a coffee table to put your drinks and nibbles on as there was no side tables to do this either the reception did bring one to us without a fuss but its the point we had to ask for it in the first place when it showed this on the website what the lodge had. It would also be nice if they had a living room lounge lamp for the evening as not everyone likes bright light. There was also no side lamp in the twin bedroom so the kids could have it on in the evening before going to sleep and weirdly no wardrobe space in the main bedroom to hang your clothes. The shower packed up 2 days before we were going home and we only one shelf in the oven to cook a Christmas dinner. The reception also did bring us a toilet brush as we didnt have one in either of the toilets. They are pet friendly but do not provide dog bins around the park when you take your dog for a walk so be prepared. Overall unfortunately we go away a-lot in the Uk and we do like to pay a little more for the money to get what we pay for but we did not feel this was the case here! a standard lodge for less money would of been sufficient.

Poor cleanliness overall within the lodge and hottub

Arrived ar 4 and collected keys. Lodge size is great - big bedrooms, plenty of space. Unfortunately it was very dirty. We found chips on the floor in one of the bedrooms and it became clear the lodge had not been hoovered. Management sent over a hoover so we could do it ourselves! Party of 8 but only seating for 6 (sofa was filthy with items stuffed down the sides) and 6 dining chairs. Old food in grooves of table. Not much in the way of kitchen equipment for 8 people. Outside light had been smashed and left on decking. Management didn't seem bothered and didn't replace. Upstairs shower leaked through to downstairs and we had to use towels to mop up. Again management said not to worry and just continue using it! Overall, this lodge could be great if it was cleaned and maintained properly. Wouldn't book there again.

just not clean enough for us. The hot tub only had one speed. No one seemed to be able to answer any questions when we asked them.

Fantastic hot tub and beautiful lodge and surroundings we had a lovely time even with a couple of ups and downs which staff did try to help with quickly
Christopher
Brilliant & cosy cottage far enough out the way to be secluded but close enough to local amenities. Amazing hotub & bathroom with underfloor heating throughout tops it off. The owners, Rob & Sharon are wonderful! (And of course Bonnie) Will definitely be coming back again for longer ASAP!!
Emma
Beautiful cottage with hot tub and log burner. lovely hosts, peaceful, perfect for our mini break. Hope to return for longer soon!
Phoebe
Really well equipped house, lovely and warm too which was so nice on a rainy December day! Bath was just lovely and a nice big shower! The property is under a flight path - this did not disturb us at all! Dont be put off! A great location for dogs who hate fireworks as it's in the middle of nowhere. Really beautiful, well converted property. Thank you!
Andrew
It was everything we wanted for our weekend away and we loved staying here. We'll definitely be back! Our pups absolutely loved the underfloor heating and had so much fun in the garden. In fact Luna came home with a strained tail and according to the vet it was because she was wagging it so much over the weekend!! Very happy pups and hoomans!
Simon
Lovely cottage. Great location for us. Away from the hustle and bustle. Great hot tub . Lovely helpful non intrusive owners. They have it just right!
Brooke
Absolutely loved how well maintained and equipped this cottage is. Plenty of dog walks right on the doorstep. Very friendly host, they were so efficient and communication was excellent. We enjoyed meeting the animals on the farm and the very curious pig penelope. Perfect escape for us and the doggos. Will definitely be back, brilliant value!! Highly recommend.
Libby
Beautiful property, spotlessly clean, well equipped and very comfortable, had a fabulous break, hot tub amazing x
James
Very kind and considerate owners. Couldnt be better. Enormously helpful and extremely pleasant. Charming half-timbered cottage with a great strong shower, cosy kitchen & living room combination and very comfortable bed. Fantastic parking directly next to the rented cottage. Well heated and very charming, and spotlessly clean. Great walks across the fields to the local village of Thaxted and of course within easy travelling distance of the village, replete with half-timbered houses and windmill.

We had a wonderful time in Goddard Mead. The cottage was very complete and there were walks on the doorstep. The welcome and stay was very warm. The owners are lovely people.
Carol
The owners Rob & Sharon, have gone to a great deal of work to sympathetically convert this historic building & we couldn't have had a warmer greeting from them both & of course Bonnie. Goddard's Mead has everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. The location is in a great area of Essex and would recommend taking the time to wander around Thaxted and other villages/towns nearby to discover it's fascinating history & buildings.
Inderjit
Such a lovely place to stay in a really beautiful, private location. The owners were really friendly and helpful, nearby if needed but without breaking that sense of privacy. The hot tub was perfect after a day of cycling! One thing to be aware of, the cottage is right under Stansted's flight path, and so there's a lot of aircraft noise. It only took us a couple of hours to get used to it and it didn't spoil our holiday at all, but something to be aware of if you're sensitive to noise.
Richard
The lovely cottage is situated on a working farm, but is very private. The owners, Robert and Sharon, are delightful. The cottage is very spacious with good equipment in the kitchen and the bathroom. The bed is really comfortable. The garden is secluded; dog proof and with good furniture. There are numerous walks around. Thaxted has good restaurants. We liked The Star and The Maypole. The Swan and the Indian are not bad either. We thoroughly recommend this place.
Denise
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Sharon and Robert were great hosts and made us feel very welcome. The accommodation had everything we needed and was clean, comfortable and secure for our dog Archie. The location was ideal too with plenty of walks to find and Thaxted and surrounding villages are lovely places to visit. We felt our batteries had certainly been recharged during our week and we enjoyed our relaxing break!
Sharon
Stayed here for a week from 15 to 22 July with our 2 mini daschund girls who thoroughly enjoyed there stay making new friends in the village of thaxted. The cottage is lovely especially the hot tub a bonus as it was the hottest days of the year so the water was coolled so it was more refreshing the hosts were very welcoming was nice to see there horses being taken to the fields each day you are on the flight path near stansted but I enjoyed watching the planes come in would definitely recommend
Fleur
Lovely accommodation, very peaceful and relaxing and great for dogs as the garden is fully inclosed

Lovely friendly owners. Couldnt do enough when the power went down due to the storm. Very well equipped and clean. Very warm cottage. Our dog enjoyed the enclosed outside space and us the hot tub!
Georgina
Perfect venue for a quiet break away. Sharon and Robert have thought of everything to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable. Although this was our second visit it definitely will not be our last.
Sarah
Beautiful cottage in a lovely quiet location. Ideal to escape and relax. Hot tub was amazing and the cottage was immaculate with everything you needed. Lots of walks close by and within the village reach. Had such a wonderful time. Couldnt recommend enough.
