These lovely lodges sit in the grounds of Ranksborough Hall, in the pretty village of Oakham. They're close to Rutland Water where you can sail, windsurf, fish - or simply enjoy a wildlife-spotting bike ride. There's also an 18 hole golf course and the towns of Grantham and Spalding are just a short drive away.

Burghley House in Stamford is worth a visit - a 16th century Tudor mansion with a wonderful 'Garden of Surprises' to take a look at. Pubs and restaurants within easy travelling distance include Hambleton Hall at Oakham, and the Risley Park Restaurant, a little further afield.

The Retreat is modern, stylish and exudes luxury. The master double has an ensuite bath and shower and there's also a double and a twin room. The living area is open plan and there's a lovely decking area with stunning views across the Leicestershire countryside. All the lodges have 40" flat screen TVs with Freeview.

Entertain the kids with a day out at Fun Farm in Grantham - with rope bridges, ball pools, tube slides and spooky caves, there's loads to keep them occupied.

Our Top Tip
"The Caves of Nottingham are also great fun - they're the original Anglo-Saxon tunnels that lie beneath the City."
