Visitor Reviews of Grattons Cedar Lodges

Really enjoyed my stay here. The wonderful views of Berrynarbour out the windows of our lodge. Excellent people running the place they were really friendly and helpful. The best part is that pets can stay. I could take my cat with me which was great. What more could you ask for!

The lodge was in need of TLC as paint was chipped on the beds. The overall effect was disappointing. This was not suitable for older people with mobility problems and was not mentioned on the info before booking.

Its criminal the owner can take money but not clean the place I bought cleaning products and cleaned it myself. No one on site or answers the phone straight away. I usually stay at hawkchurch resort and spa and I will be returning there I get a lovely clean cabin with towels. This place needs to be closed for a while to bring the cabins up to standard and new furniture bought or hire a cleaner.

The location of the lodges is just beautiful, unfortunately the standard of cleanliness inside the lodge really let the place down. It was dirty, rubbish left from previous guests. Very expensive for the standard inside the lodge.

This was the perfect place for a quiet holiday especially with a dog/dogs. Lovely location with gorgeous walks accessible without even getting in the car! It was a 20 minute walk from the back of the site ( through the excellent dog walking field) to the lovely harbour of Watermouth and the south west coastal park. The lodge itself was perfect with a couple of dogs and the deck outside with far reaching views made it a great place to sit around and relax. There are also 2 pubs within walking distance - the one in the village especially lovely. Justin, the site manager, who is around most days is very helpful and knows the area really well. He is happy to give advice on where to go etc. All in all a great place to get away from it all and relax and enjoy the stunning countryside and coast.

On arrival I found the fridge to have mould in it so I had to clean it before I could put my food in it, the plates, cups & pans also had to be cleaned. I found a dog chew & plenty of dust under a radiator, the bathroom was also dirty & the bathroom window will not close so every morning we had a collection of bugs, the toilet seat was broken. The bed was comfy but we had to pull it out every night to be able to get into bed. The sofa needs replacing. The outside of the lodge was filthy, cobwebs in the open windows & mould on the inside of the windows, the windows need cleaning.

Need to travel as not a lot in the area, extremely hilly. The dogs had a great time in the surrounding woods. Would be really helpful if there was a map with all the local walks in the room, we met a local lady the day before we left and she said you could buy one in the shop which was too late for us to know. Room had everything we needed, not the cleanest and we did have a visiting mouse under the kitchen sink but didnt see it on our stay just left its poop. Pub down the hill is dog friendly and food was lovely. We walked for miles and visited Ilfracombe, Woolacombe and Castle Hill. The conformation emails says you cannot arrive until 5pm but you can actually have the room from 3pm and dont have to leave until 10am on the last day. I would not go back only because I feel we did everything we could in the area and it is too far out.

The surrounding area to the lodges is beautiful and there are plenty of places to explore.. however, the lodge itself wasnt clean, the smell of damp and mould was very strong at times, the WiFi didnt work and the mouse scratching and running across the floor at night was not welcomed.. if these issues were addressed then these lodges would be so much better

Never book again Live exposed electrics. No smoke detectors Not safe to sleep in and contravening regulations. Uncomfortable sofa and tub chair Booked as a lodge through Hoseasons but its not a lodge and after staying it was very overpriced for the accommodation provided. No staff on site. Would definitely not book again. Also has made me think again using Hoseasons as this is not up to standard.I read the other reviews after staying but wont that mistake again

The lodge was quite disappointing, it was smaller than expected and not very well equipped. Some appliances didn't work at all. The hot water from both the kitchen and bathroom was dangerously hot.

Very dirty lodge. Black mould in the fridge, lots of dead decayed insects on the window sills, lots of cob webs inside the lodge. Pots and pans dirty, with remains of food. Had to buy a frying pan. Used tea bag on the floor behind the bin. Bits of "don't know what" in the bed. Couldn't use the toaster, even after emptying crumb tray, still too dirty. Had to wash filthy grill pan. Would be a nice lodge if it was kept clean.

Ideal for a quiet holiday but you need to be fit for the uphill walk from the village

Date of stay: 20th April 2023
The location was peaceful and the surrounding area very pretty. The perfect spot for sight seeing . But the cabin inside was awful. Cob webbs, filthy fridge and rusty dirty toilet seat. We had to buy products to clean the kitchen and bathroom The floors are worn and had holes. The furniture tatty. The whole Inside of the cabin needs refurbishing. Just becouse it's a dog friendly cabin doesn't mean it has to be just fit for dogs. That is what let our vacation down. Not the site it's self or the location.

Overall a very good location for our. The accommodation was very clean and tidy and the site was immaculately kept. At 6ft 3in I would just raise a warning about the low doors to the bedroom and bathroom. Ouch!!

The Lodge is lovely and the standard of furniture and fittings is very good.
Generally everything was very clean however the chair and sofa did have a number of dog hairs on it (especially in the reclining parts) - we were able to sort this ourselves as there was a very good vacuum cleaner available.
The lodge was warm and the beds comfortable.
It is a fab place to stay

Great location with lovely views. Fantastic for us and 3 dogs with walks all around. Great base for exploring north Devon. Accommodation was basic but everything we needed. Would visit again.

Very friendly and helpful staff; Justin! Lovely clean lodge, with everything we needed. Beautiful views and a lovely dog walk at the back of the site. Up a very steep hill! But well worth it. Would highly recommend. Our second visit.
