Skegness does the classic seaside experience as well as anywhere in Britain, with arcades, shows and family entertainment all along the front. Then a ten-minute drive inland, the noise drops away, and you’re back on your decking with nothing but farmland and big Lincolnshire skies around you.

That’s why lodges near Skegness work so well.

Below are six real parks within about 25 minutes of the seafront, a side by side comparison, the dog rules for the beaches and the best activities nearby. Everything you need for a good break.

Which lodges near Skegness are worth booking?

Most of the best Skegness lodges sit just outside town, in the farmland and villages a few miles inland. That location gives you peace at night and quick access to the entertainment. Here are six we’d pick, closest first.

Skegness Fields, Lincolnshire

Driving Distance: About 3 minutes (1.3 miles) | Sleeps: Up to 8 | Pets: Yes

What to expect: Open farmland on the outskirts of town, far enough out for a calmer stay but only a five-minute drive from the attractions. Guests rate it 4.6 out of 5.

Who will love it? Families who want the seaside every day without staying on a big caravan park. You get a private hot tub, room for eight, and the dog can come too.

Home Farm Park Lakeside Retreat, Lincolnshire

Driving Distance: About 9 minutes (4.7 miles) | Sleeps: Up to 8 | Pets: Yes

What to expect: Caravan holiday homes and lodges from the Bouja collection, with tubs on the decking and a veranda looking straight over a well stocked fishing lake. It’s rated 4.5.

Who will love it? Anglers first, then any family or dog owner who’d like a peaceful spot to relax in after the beach.

Home Farm Park Luxury Barns, Lincolnshire

Driving Distance: About 9 minutes (4.7 miles) | Sleeps: Up to 10 | Pets: No

What to expect: A small group of restored period barn conversions with open plan living areas, high spec kitchens, beautiful bedrooms and outdoor tubs.

Who will love it? Large groups. He first skipped across a Great Northern Railway poster in 1908 under the slogan “Skegness is so bracing”, and his statue now stands in Tower Gardens.

The pier opened in 1881 at 1,844 feet long, until a gale in January 1978 broke it apart. Today’s shorter pier is full of indoor fun, including ten-pin bowling, laser quest and a big soft play centre. For evening entertainment, see what’s on at the Embassy Theatre on the seafront.

Is Natureland Seal Sanctuary worth a visit?

Yes, especially with children. On North Parade, Natureland cares for injured and abandoned seals in its own seal hospital, alongside penguins, a tropical house and an aquarium. You’ll enjoy it most at a feed, at 11.30am or 2pm. It lists opening from 10am every day, with last entry at 4pm.

Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve

Just south of town, the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust looks after dunes, saltmarsh and shore at Gibraltar Point. Common seals haul out on the sandbanks, little terns fish the shallows in summer and winter brings brent geese and hen harriers. A walk out to the hides is a relaxing way to fill a morning.

Parking: £2 for 2 hours or £5 for the full day, the Trust says.

Visitor centre and café: 10am to 4pm from April to October, 10am to 3pm from November to March.

Dogs: on leads at all times, and kept off the shore from 1 April to 1 September.

Access: accessible routes, plus toilets and baby changing at the visitor centre.

Fantasy Island at Ingoldmells

A short drive up the coast, Fantasy Island has more than 35 rides and activities and reopened for the 2026 season on 21 March, while every October it turns into Fear Island, a fortnight of Halloween scare mazes. Wristbands are cheaper booked online, and families make a day of the fun.

Anderby Creek and the Cloud Bar

About ten miles north, Anderby Creek is the antidote to the big resorts. No arcades, just soft sand, dunes and the Cloud Bar, the world’s first purpose-built cloud-watching platform, put up in 2009. There’s parking beside the dunes, plus a café and a pub with a beer garden.

Day trips to explore inland

Head inland and the land rises into the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape, a fantastic contrast to the flat coast. A pair of circular “In the Footsteps of Tennyson” walks, of 2 and 5¼ miles, start at Bag Enderby church and pass through Somersby, where the poet was born, about 15 miles from Skegness.

Alford: a five-sailed windmill built in 1837, about 11 miles away.

Batemans Brewery, Wainfleet: six miles away, with tours that end in the cellars (none from late December to the end of March).

Can you take your dog on Skegness beach?

Yes, but not all year. The district council’s order, renewed in late 2024 for three years, keeps dogs off the main sands at Skegness, Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea in summer, with fines of up to £1,000.

Where

Dogs allowed?

When

Skegness main sands

No

1 May to 30 September

Skegness promenade

On a lead

1 May to 30 September

Skegness main sands

Yes

1 October to 30 April

Gibraltar Point shore

No

1 April to 1 September

Anderby Creek

Yes, in the signed dog area

All year

Enclosed play areas and paddling pools

No

All year

In summer, explore the signed dog area at Anderby Creek or the walks inland instead.

When’s the best time for a Skegness holiday?

July and August are the warmest months, with around 8 hours of sunshine a day and the sea at its best in mid August, but they’re also the busiest. Many guests prefer September, when the crowds thin out and the water’s still warm.

Cold and quiet, with dogs allowed on the sand.

Coldest sea, but Natureland opens daily.

Fantasy Island reopened on 21 March in 2026.

Easter brings the town back to life.

Longer days.
