Sand Le Mere
On arrival at Sand Le Mere we were immediately impressed with the location and peaceful atmosphere of the site. It was springtime and the site was at low occupancy but still felt friendly and welcoming. Having secured a fantastic last minute deal we were a little apprehensive about our caravan, but we need not have worried. Our caravan was spotlessly clean, modern and spacious.
There are several types of caravan here and our Viking one was actually one of the nicest we have stayed in. The Viking Deluxe looked to be a little newer and have central heating making them a good choice in the colder months. The site also offers superior lodges with two or three bedrooms which are more spacious and ideal for larger families. All accommodations here are very well equipped for self catering.
As the site was quiet the clubhouse was not open, but the friendly Mermaid Bar was a nice place to enjoy a drink on an evening. The site has a good selection of facilities for families including an outdoor swimming pool which we thought would prove very popular in the summertime. There is also a children's play area and trampoline as well as a hot tub. The fishing facilities here are some of the best we have seen in Yorkshire.
The location of Sand Le Mere means that the seaside venues of Hornsea, Bridlington and Scarborough are all within easy reach and we enjoyed a fun packed day in Scarborough where we visited the aquarium and enjoyed a fish and chip supper. We also spent a very pleasant day in the nearby market town of Beverly.
Since our visit Sand Le Mere has undergone a refurbishment programme with over 1.3 million pound being spent on upgrading the accommodation. A brand new indoor swimming pool complex is also planned for the new season.
